That film saved my life, it restored my will to live. I’m a disabled singer as opposed to a dancer, my career flourished when I was no longer a carer, I survived a suicide attempt at Terry’s age-to say I can relate to it is an understatement! I will always consider Charles Chaplin to be the creator of Limelight-and a few other films!

Being a US citizen, I am embarrassed by how Charlie Chaplin was treated by my country. The McCarthy "witch hunt" trials shouldn't have ever happened and was a very dark time in our history. I'm so glad he did return to the US in 1972 to accept his Academy Award. At least he knew in his last few years that there were so many people in the US who still cared about him and loved his movies. It's a shame that Limelight was banned in the US for so long. What a great film and lovely work of art! I love this film!

True! That really sucks that they only granted him a two month Visa! But at least he knew there were a lot of people in the US who still admired him and loved his work. From what I've read, he seemed less bitter after that. I hope it gave him some happiness and peace towards the end of his life.

One and only Charlie Chaplin no one has ever able to replace his talent. A great actor, writer, producer, and universal story teller. RIP

Limelight gives all the meaning to one of Mr.Chaplin’s famous quotes: ”My Only Enemy Is Time” nothing could be more true from a mortal soul. No one wants to live forever nor no one wants to fade in age either. The world will never have an entertainer with that kind of magic in human lifetime again.

All these evil letters added more and more disgust to poor Chaplin's heart.

For me, this should be his final film, the subsequent films where below Limelight, anyway, Monsieur Verdoux is a better film in my opinion, Limelight is a very decent farewell.

I see Julian's comment below and completely agree. The U.S. has always had that small-minded, closed-minded strain. I have lived long enough to see the absurdity of that flaw, most recently exemplified by Pres. Trump and supporters who shared his orientation.

pronouncing Paulette Goddard's name with a fakey french accent is guffaw-worthy!
