Time for my Stories is a podcast about analyzing TV shows hosted by Matt Christman and Felix Biederman from Chapo Trap House. Previously only available through a now-defunct app, this show is now at risk of becoming lost media.
The town of Deadwood, South Dakota in the weeks following the Custer massacre is a lawless sinkhole of crime and corruption. Into this uncivilized outpost ride a disillusioned and bitter ex-lawman, Wild Bill Hickok, and Seth Bullock, a man hoping to find a new start for himself. Both men find themselves quickly on opposite sides of the legal and moral fence from Al Swearengen, saloon owner, hotel operator, and incipient boss of Deadwood. The lives of these three intertwine with many others, the high-minded and the low-lifes who populate Deadwood in 1876.

The one point of contention I have is with Felix's characterization of Farnum as a silicon valley type who can't wait to sell off his business. Farnum is driven into panic by the offer to buy his hotel. He knows that it's all he has ever accomplished and that without the Hotel he'd be nothing.

If breaking bad was cancelled after 3 seasons, it would not have the cultural resonance it does. Viewership per episode didnt take off until the 5th season

Breaking bad went on too many seasons, and the end battle with the Not-Zs was typical and wasteful.

YES. Deadwood is bookended by the death of Bill Hickok and George Hearst's killing of Charlie Utter by George Hearst. Deadwood is the liminal space between the end of the old system, the US/North America as a settleable wilderness, and the dominance of a new one - capital. Phenomenal show, my absolute favorite, and I'm glad to have found this review.

My favorite tv series ever. Such a shame it got cancelled. We'll never know the hights this series could've reached had they allowed David Milch to continue the story as he envisioned. I doubt we're gonna get a series with this level of writing ever again, especially in terms of dialogue.

58:42 Star Trek went three seasons but they were 26 week Seasons if I'm remembering correctly, a big problem with episode based storytelling is, 10 to 12 episodes a year isn't enough to keep people interested and coming back there's a big difference between asking somebody to wait a whole summer before they get their favorite asking somebody to wait 9 months
