I remember reading horror stories from a complete lack of infrastructure in East St. Louis...20 years ago. As in sewage seeping and pooling in people's yards from cracked or non-existent sewer pipes and undrinkable tap water.

My grandparents lived in East St. Louis back in the late 60's. Every once in a while, they'll just drop a fucking insane story from back then like it's just a wild thing that happened one day on their way to work. My grandma once told me about the time someone stole the engine out of her car while she was chopping onions. Didn't look up from the cutting board once. Just like it was nothing.

I'd say culturally the major cities of Missouri are midwestern (ie St Louis & KC) but everything outside of that is southern.
