When I enjoy art it’s about the feelings and emotions and connection to the piece… it’s about my relationship with what I’m seeing, it’s really nothing to do with the artist or creator. Many times an artist creates something and sees it through an entirely different lens than those who just behold it. The art usually means something entirely different to them, so I can enjoy it for myself without needing to associate myself with the artist or their views.

R. Kelly first came out when I was in 8th grade. Honey Love, Bump N Grind, etc. By the time I was in high school, he tried to marry Aaliyah (who was my age), he tried to marry her on a falsified birth certificate, or took her to one of those weird states where they let you marry kids under 18. Either way, I knew then and there that Kels was a full-blown creep. By the time the pissing video came out, I was maybe you guys’ age, and I was just like “yeah, that totally tracks.” Haven’t even seen the documentary so I don’t know the half, but I know enough to know that he cut up beyond forgiveness. Still Top 1 R&B singer of all time as far as I’m concerned, the predator stuff is terrible, but will never affect how I feel about the music

I’m just saying I’m able to separate the artist from the art. If you go back through music history, there’s been all kinds of sketchy behavior from A-list musicians. All those 70s rock stars, it’s pretty well known some of the groupies were 13, 14 years old. Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Robert Plant, they were all questionable. I’ve heard some weird stuff about Chuck Berry. We all know about MJ, lmfao. It doesn’t make their music worse, you have to be able to compartmentalize. You don’t want to buy an album, don’t buy an album, I’m just saying the work remains the quality it always was. Cosby Show is still classic, but we’re out on Bill. We aren’t supposed to mention it since he died, but we all know Kobe had dirt back in the 00s, but we looked the other way because he could ball. I mean, really, celebrities are just strangers, I don’t even know these people to have any opinion of them one way or the other. They just do what they do, and that’s what I appreciate. I have the lowest of expectations for human behavior at this point, so nothing is so outrageous that it shocks me, sadly. So I’d never leave a woman I cared about alone with R. Kelly, but Ignition Remix will always and forever be an all-time song, even if he committed mass genocide. Hitler apparently couldn’t sing, but if he had that smooth baby-makin’ music, I’d still be listening to songs from Third Reich Records, lmao
