Chapter 2 -The 12 Vowels in Shorthand (Introduction, explained clearly) (Pitman Shorthand Video -51)

There are 12 vowels in Pitman Shorthand. Out of this, 6 are long vowel sounds and remaining 6 are short vowel sounds. The long vowel are represented by a heavy dot and a heavy dash. The short vowels are represented by a light dot and a light dash.
Always practice Pitman Shorthand with pencil and make the thin strokes, light vowel signs LIGHT and thick strokes, dark vowel signs DARK.
Pitman Shorthand language increases the speed, fluency in writing. We write English words in shorthand with the help of signs, symbols, strokes and also long/frequently occurring words by a single sign. It saves the space and our precious time. Shorthand is useful for steno, secretary, students, lawyers, Personal Assistants, useful for women. For easier, efficient working lets learn this magical language which is Pitman Shorthand.

Calm word mein l ki sound silent hai to isse represent nahin karengen. Calm word ki outline k stroke ko above the line banayengen, then m stroke, k stroke ke neeche first place par thick dot pa wala vowel sign lagayengen. Cor A means what?? Which word you are asking?

Thank you for asking the query. Yes, you are right in Palm we use thick dot near first place. There are six long vowel sounds - 1. Sign thick dot - Vowel ah (first place) e.g pa, a (second place) e.g may, e (third place) e.g we 2. Sign thick dash - vowel aw (first place) e.g all, o (second place) e.g go, oo (third place) e.g too remember these six sounds easily by the sentence "pa may we all go too?" and there are six short vowel sounds- 1. sign light dot - vowel a (first place) e.g that, e (second place) e.g pen, i (third place) e.g is 2. sign light dash - vowel o (first place) e.g not, u (second place) e.g much, oo (third place) e.g good. remember these six sounds by the sentence "that pen is not much good". There are two forms to write H consonant (hay) - upward and downward. In upward form (from down to up) vowel places are counted from down to up and in downward form (from up to down) vowel places are counted from up to down.

Thank you for the query. As we write Shorthand according to sound, in the word like 1. camel - it is giving sound k stroke in the beginning so will use k stroke. 2. Jo consonants down to up hain like l, ray, way, yay hay (up) ...agar vowel sound inke baad aati hai then vowel sign inki right side par lagega e.g low word mein go wali sound l ke baad hai to vowel sign l stroke ki right side par banega. If still doubt, feel free to write to me.

Good question - Aapko consonants clear hain? Vowels total 12 hote hain - out of this, 4 vowels above the line banate hain, 4 vowels on the line, and 4 through the line. Hello, In the word Rut, there is a sound of upward R(ray) and not downward R(ar). After R there is a sound of vowel u (much), sign is light dash which is second place, on the line that's why I have written the outline on the line. Agar abhi bhi doubt hai , to pls. mujhe bataye... main dubara explain kar doongi...

In the word pull, there is a vowel sound of oo (good wala vowel) (light dash, third place, through the line) so the word is through the line. In the word pool, the vowel sound is oo (too wala vowel) (thick dash, third place, through the line), so the word is through the line.

Thank u for the query. Raid and red would be written same but we can differentiate them with the vowel sign. In the word 'Raid' after r sound there is a sound of vowel thick dot second place near the stroke. And in the word red after r sound, there is a sound of vowel light dot second place.
