The main reason that chemistry is important in STEM Biology is that chemistry is the language of biology. Without proper knowledge in General Chemistry, it is almost impossible to understand biology. Remember that biology is easy, it's the chemistry that gets students. So that is why a lot of colleges in the US requires General Chemistry as a prereqisite to STEM Biology.
