For me, I think that since neither Shandris or Tyrande reacted with either sadness or anger after the Sisters spoke, the takeaway is meant to be that Elune wasn't responsible for the burning. She took advantage of that "tragedy" to try to help her counterpart. That it failed, in most part, serves to underline that Warcraft gods are fallible. They're powerful, but flawed, and far from everything they do goes to plan. Perhaps Elune was limited in a similar manner to Odyn(prior to his deal..), and simply couldn't perceive events(clearly or in any great detail) beyond the Veil. Likewise the Winter Queen didn't know what steps Elune had taken to help.

Also, Elune didn't know about the disconnect of the Shadowlands brought on by the "betrayal" orchestrated by Zoval. Like the phone line was cut between the realms of the Shadowlands and Reality/The Great cycle. And just because they are gods doesn't mean they know "everything" going on in the great cosmos. But it would seem though, that Dreadlords did have the right idea in infiltrating the other realms of the cosmos....then you can know "most" everything. But this failure and fallible nature of Elune could also serve to endear her more to her children. Showing them that family is important, and those souls that did get to serve that purpose would be honored. They would give themselves to save Auntie Winter...

So, I am no fan of the storyline in Shadowlands so far, but there's one thing I feel I should point out. Even the Eternal Ones, beings that actually EXIST in the Shadowlands, didn't know that all the souls were going straight into the maw until we told them. Elune doesn't exist in the Shadowlands. Indeed, she is the Winter Queen's counterpart in the realm of life, if the Primus is to be believed. It's perfectly reasonable that she didn't know that the Shadowlands itself was broken, and was operating on the assumption that souls would still be sorted as they always had been. EDIT: And something else... Ardenweald is basically a heaven afterlife from the point of view of a people close to nature. Souls there aren't bled for their anima. They simply shed it over time, until time for their rebirth. Basically, all you can actually say is Elune made a mistake with allowing those souls into the afterlife instead of making them into wisps, and that she didn't stop the destruction of the tree. That's not surprising really, considering that death is a part of nature, which is something the Nelves revere. War is in the nature of people in Azeroth (it's right there in the name). She just let 'nature take its course' since she has no reason or way to know about Zovaal and his involvement in Sylvanas' actions, but still spared the people of Teldrassil the suffering of burning to death.

22:02 funny thing that people don't seem to notice and i don't know if it because of lack of focus.. but Elune said she could hear the cries and that is why she tried to send the souls. i believe she must have been hearing those cries sense Legion and when Silvanas attacked she must have thought that even though it hurt a lot to see her children die she needed them too so they could help her sister in the shadowlands. i think even though she is a goddess she can't see into the shadowlands like how Bwonsamdi can because Elune is more connected into the real of life but Bwonsamdi is connected into the realm of death and that is why he could see there was something wrong. i don't think the gods in the realm of the living can see the status of Oribos and i believe that is why they didn't understand what was happening in the shadowlands fully. even though Bwosamdi is connected to the shadowlands even he didn't know what happen in Oribos, he just knew something very bad was happening in the shadowlands and Elune had it worst she couldn't see what was happeing but she could hear the screams of pain in the shadowland, she had to not just hear the screams of the shadowlands but the scream of the nightelfs as they died and without even knowing being sent into the Maw. let that sink in.

They are playing it too loose for the subject matter they're presenting. Genocide. They deserve the anger they are getting because this is truly frustrating If by some miracle of Elune a Blizzard storyboard writer is seeing this and not understanding; that's exactly how we feel. Explain these things to us, it doesn't always have to be a spectacle. Tyrande sold her life just to kill Sylvanas for her atrocities. Having her flip in one moment removes any care in the world I had for her character, which hits SOOOO hard as a Night Elf oriented player, I felt Tyrandes pain when she became the Night Warrior. And in many ways I still want her to get revenge on Sylvanas even if it means her sacrifice (not that I want her to die but vengeance is too high a prize to pass up). So explain THAT to me. Not in one cinematic, not in one quest, show me examples of how her character is changing into this new "renewal" philsophy. Rant over thank you.

This. Not only did Sylvanas commit Genocide, but she knowingly sent the souls of the victims to literal Hell, to be twisted into monsters by the Jailer. I get that they're trying to push the theme of vengeance leading only to more pain and destruction (ironically, that's what happened to Sylvanas aswell), but after what happened to the night elves, this story NEEDS A PROPER CONCLUSION. We need a proper explanation why Elune stopped Tyrande from killing Sylvanas, beyond the fact that she's a raid boss. We need more information about Elune sending the night elf souls to the Shadowlands, and how much power or knowledge she truly has outside her own realm. We also need to know what all of this means for the night elf souls we saved from the Maw. Since we're not killing Sylvanas either, I hope there's still some way Tyrande and her people will have justice. If not through vengeance, then hopefully through atonement.

yeah same here. I feel like Tyrande's whole Night Warrior story arc was pointless after this. She turned into the night warrior just to get purged one addon later. that's... I dont know it all feels so redundant. Same with Sylvanas suddenly deciding to fight against the jailor. By no MEANS do I say the story is bad or the character developement is bad. you know I feel like there is no problem with these changes happening but how blizzard is writing this stuff right now it just feels WAY to fast. If we had seen doubts in sylvans actions during legion / BFA and everything would slowly build up to a moment where she decides to change sides I would be totally fine with it. But Right now it feels like blizzard is just putting in some fancy new storyline, screwing over EVERYTHING we knew about certain characters and their traits just to reverse it one year later. I am sorry but the story just feels forced at this point. I was fine with bfa lore itself but shadowlands .... I don't think this was a good idea...

the Gods interfere alot. The Titans, The Eternal Ones, The Void Lords(we've only had there servants the Old Gods but thats for now, there all on the same Tier of power. They all attempt to shape parts of Reality for what they believe. The First Ones are the being above them and are the ones that seemingly don't interfere, they just built the stuff gave Sigils to The Eternal Ones, seemingly created The Titans but without the knowledge that they were Created and just that they are The Creators and must provide Order. Alot of it still needs to be explained like even what is Elunes Actual Form and Duty. The Winter Queens is Rebirth, The Primus is to Protect The Shadowlands, The Archon's is to safetly carry to the souls from Reality to The Shadowlands. Elune always has Moon and Stars symbols around her and really make me wonder if she is literally Space. You could say something like shes the Moon but I honestly think the Moon is too weak of a scale for what Elune fully is. I would think of the Moon as just a small piece if anything since Lunar Eclipses are what invoke or show the Presence of her Power.

If Ysera is having visions that state Tyrande is vital to Ardenweald's survival, it's likely that Elune, connected to same power, has seen these visions too. Which could go a long way towards explaining why she didn't allow Tyrande to trade her life for Sylvanas'.

I don’t think that’s the implication at all. If anything it was Elune rejecting Tyrande’s plea of “My life for hers” because she didn’t want to lose the most faithful and loyal priestess of her favored people. Also Elune wasn’t “trying to kill” Tyrande, the power erupting from her is just the natural endpoint of the Night Warrior powers, they are destined to destroy themselves one way or another, and Tyrande refusing to let go and lashing out was causing it to go into overdrive

If Sylvanas was given back part of her soul at the end of the previous big cinematic, does that imply all Forsaken are missing a part of themselves? It's established in the lore that when they are brought back into undeath they are different than they were in life. The Forsaken as a whole are more okay with doing things other races would find abhorrent. Nathanos is another example of this and in the mirror story, we can read that he is just as callous and dismissive of life as Sylvanas. If that's the case, maybe before whatever end Sylvanas meets, she'll save The Forsaken *again*

We know from the Kyrian quest this week that mourneblades can quite literally shatter one’s soul, and while not all forsaken were brought back through frostmourne, it’s definitely possible that the process of being raised through its power or derivatives of its power has a similar effect

I still can't believe the entire genocide is pinned on Sylvanas alone. Like, why doesn't anyone want to make the Horde pay for actually committing the genocide Sylvanas ordered them to do? Why? Because they were "just following orders"? They seemed pretty enamored with the concept of genociding night elves. Also "just following orders" is literally the Nuremberg argument used by many nazis. It did not work on them, and they were mostly hanged. So it is incredibly tone deaf and problematic that Blizz is trying to make the actual perpetrators of the genocide get swept under the rug just to preserve their precious shitty status quo of Horde and Alliance. Because if they actually addressed this, Horde would be dismantled and destroyed by every sane faction on Azeroth for being a warcrime generator.

The thing is the vast majority of the horde were under the impression that this was a normal war and that they were going to occupy the tree as a strategic position or something like that. The only ones who were directly responsible for the tree burning were Sylvanas, the catapult operators who didn’t refuse, and Saurfang who didn’t immediately intervene despite his clear objections to this plan

Yup, and so was the story, and the filming direction, and everything else. Shadowlands has been amazing, Legion levels of lore revelations. Regardless of how you feel, we knew virtually NOTHING of the Shadowlands before this. Now we know exactly how it functions, and who's in charge, AND we found out about the existence of the First Ones, beings likely more powerful than Zovaal, who is "Titan++," who himself, is likely on the power level of Sargeras, if not stronger. Separate the gameplay from the lore. The lore has always been too notch. If I was playing WoW for the gameplay and not the lore, I would've permaquit over a decade ago. And if you're not here for the lore, the fuck are you doing watching a literal lore channel lol

We (the maw walker) helped the jailer by bring the Primus's sigil literally right to his door. They turned the "Night Warrior" storyline into a complete joke, which apparently was all for nothing now. I could honestly go on all night, but the complaints about the story are all around us. You will never change my perception unless you can change the story yourself. The majority thinks the story is a complete joke and unfortunately I am in agreement with them.

@@hiropisku1078 that’s not how moving past things works There’s studies about people who watch family’s killers get the death penalty, it often doesn’t bring the closure you think it does, especially if it becomes an obsession. They often feel like they spent so much time wanting vengeance that they never really mourn their lost loved one, and feel no better after the killer’s death than they did before. You don’t have to forgive someone to let go of obsessive vengeance. You just have to accept that you lost something and learn to move forward, becoming stronger and seeking justice against the person only to prevent them from hurting others rather than some idea that their death will somehow heal the injury done to you

Blizzard really has a knack for ruining storylines and characters by expanding or putting them more in the spotlight, and not only in this universe. Even Elune, the more she is fleshed out the stupider it gets. They keep expanding the scale of her powers, which only makes her actions or lack there off stupid as hell. She interfers sufficiently in the mortals life to literally create a new race (nelves out of trolls) but does nothing when the same race is endangered by the Shattering

She didn’t create the NE, they came about from the magic pouring out of the Well of Eternity. Plus it’s been pretty clearly shown that she acts almost exclusively through those who worship her, with her few acts outside of that being in extremely dire circumstances, so her not being a Deus Ex Macchina for anything involving the night elves makes sense lore both wise and from a writing standpoint because then Night Elves would just be a race of Mary Sues who never lose anything (and even with things the way they are now they still lean a bit towards that)

This whole quest chain this week was infuriating. We're the maw walker. The covenants are working together. Last week we got the Harvester of Wrath on our side. And this week we sneak in to revendreth and (it looks like) we are making a move to free malganis. Thankfully they weren't *that* stupid. And after all that nonsense, it's a few second conversation with the Harvester of Wrath. Winter queen was apparently completely unaware we were helping tyrande? God, she's painfully useless. Burning of Teldrasil - Fandral Staghelm was involved in creating the tree NOT through pure means (without the blessing of the Dragon Aspect). It wasn't until cataclysm that the Dragons removed all corruption. Was this the consequence? The Dragon Aspects did nothing to save it from Sylvanas.

I think the reality of it, is that Elune had the power to intervene. She has done so in the past at least once on an epic scale, when she altered the Shadow Trolls to give them "graceful bodies to match their noble spirits", and created the Night Elves, and even putting them into a sleep when the tree burned. I believe she would have been able to at least intervene enough, that significantly more would have been saved if she acted, but she made the decision to *not* act, perhaps even killing some by putting them to sleep (ensuring they couldn't escape), and in THAT way, she feels responsible for condemning them. 100% died because she chose to ensure that, to save Ardenweald, rather than the maybe 60% of she decided to intervene in a way that helped the Night Elves. And if we're being charitable, perhaps she couldn't directly deposit several thousand souls into Ardenweald at once, like what she did with Ysera, or perhaps she assumed that since they weren't corrupted like Ysera was, that they would just end up there automatically because, well, they were Night Elves. Both of those would explain her shock that the Souls were condemned to the Maw.

I think the problem is everyone is looking from the shadowlands perspective you should look from the night elf perspective since she's talking through tyrande: "through tragedy I sent you a cascade of souls" the tragedy here is the war against the night elves through this genocide she chose not to save them so they are sent through the maw or not turn into wisps or whatever she can't outright murder her children but in the tragedy she didn't save em or turn them into wisps like their usual path she made a detour

i feel the burning had to happen based on what came after and basically shadowlands explained why it happened and why needed. 20:39 its simple the jailer was behind the burning of teldrassil. after he manipulated sylvannis to his side. with her suicicde attempt which he prepaed for whether he directly manipulterd her into into the suidice to begin with or not egardless he needed her to die so he could manipulate her so even if sylvannas didnt try to commit suicide im sure he wouldve had her killed and lead exactly to same thing. and once she on his side told her to do it. he told her he needs all these souls and thus anima in part for him to escape imprisonment. So what better way to get a shitload of souls than burning teldrassil? obviously shed have to have a logical explanation for doing what she did and this was it by playing it off as oh a strategic move against alliance when in reality she did it to give a massive power boost to the jailer. so the jailer weas directly behind it.

1:21 I like Taliesin's take a lot more, Tyrande already chose renewal here instead of vengeance, deep inside. She was in fact hesitant, and that's why she wasn't able to focus the power. It does happen to people, when they see the goal right there, even if they already have it, they hesitate to make the final step. This, of course is only one possibility - but it would mean Elune did not "not do it".

29:20 again simple her motivations were she was manipulated to believing the afterlife is unjust and wrong by the jailers schemes and the jailer obviously lied lied to her to continue her helping him by saying this afterlife system is unjust and when i get free ill will stop it and remake it and make it "just" playing on sylvannis emotions. she with this final cinematic in this video she realized that the jailer was lying to her the whole time and using her. not for what she was made to beleive whcih sia common goal but the jailers true selfish goals and probably realised in that moment he used her desire to die and free herself of her undeath life and find peace in afterlife and sued that to twist her. i genuinely believe her motive wasnt one of evil and ahd good intentions but was warped. she believed in life is all pain and in death no matter what youve done in life you will still suffer even though u were a good person in life and thus people suiffer the same if not more in the afterlife as in life and was lead to believe by the jailor her wanted to "fix it" and amke things just so the people get essentiually what the deserve in afterlife and/or chance to repent and also she was lead to believe by the jailer that he was wrong and his imprisonment was unjust. so so built that trust in him by saying this afterlife system, is unjust and what happened to me was unjust adn want to fix it. shje believe the "doing bad for greater good thing" she believed deep down that the burning was done in end to help the world to help usher in the new afterlife system that is "just" and shes always has done whatever was neccesary to a ccomplish her goal. so IMO i dont think just decided to go evil. its debatable the morality of it all. like killing 1 person intentionally to save millions dilemna yah obviously intentionally killing a person is bad obviously the intnent and purpose is to save many more lives. it would would be done for the good of everyone else. so doing the 1 bad deed can be justified. i believe sylvannis was doiing this for the greater good and not simple petty revenge of when she died and wanted to fix this for evveryone even thought how it actually worked was just and and fair and just the jailer made ti seem otherwise. all in a moment realizing probably from the moment of her suicide till that moment was a lie and huge manpiluation and stopped helping though to late and she not needed anymore. i assume maybe this cinematic is teh aftermath of 2nd raid and beating sylvannis in it? only did first 3 bosses in raid finder so dunno. so i hope sylvannis can be pityed and redeemed as can possibly see depsite how evil it seemed down to the core that she really believed in helping everyone and "fixing" what she though was a wrong.

Anyone get vibes that Elune is kind of evil? This night warrior stuff, she sent people on a murderous rampage that made them die a horrific death.. And inn the case of the stonewright, she wiped out an entire planet full of innocent civilisations (the Stonwright says this if you talk to her before the ceremony). And Elune putting all the elves to sleep so they burn to death in their tree.. Also seems odd she took away Tyrande's power when she could've killed Sylvannas. Idk, something just seems a bit suspicious

thought about this too... but evil might not be the right word here. "evil" in warcraft is always vague :D I feel like Elune just cares about her own races, especially the night elves. Everything elune does is to protect her followers. Even the burning would "help" them in the end as she intended to keep the ardenweald cycle intact. narcissistic feels like a good word to describe elune. As for the sylvanas thing.... I think she does not want sylvanas dead because she has something planned for her. Maybe she wants sylvanas for the "renewal" stuff they talked about. But than again sylvanas is not a night elf and I dont know how much elune actually cares about high/blood elfs, probably not at all i guess. soooo it does not really make sense... Especially because in the cinematic she talked about vengance or renewal but tyrande has to decide on her own right? I don’t think the Night Warrior stuff necessarily implies that it’s Elune that’s evil, but rather that invoking her power with anger just exacerbates the negative emotions and causes destruction. That might be why Elune, despite showing immense power, is kind of hands-off in the wake of a lot of things, only nudging things in a certain direction rather than taking direct action. Perhaps she knows how dangerous her own powers are if she just pumps it into the world and doesn’t like doing it if she can help it

Elune got really dumb in just a video 1. Already at the War of Thorns, thousands and thousands of souls were sent to the shadowlands while making War on the Shore, so how many more did she need to send to Ardenweald? 2. Soooo, First, Elune neglects at the decisive moment the vengenace Tyrande craved so much by taking away her powers vs Sylvanas (being able to crunch the neck of Sylvanas). Then Tyrande is literally about to explode cause Elune continues to give her power, she's watching it happen, until Winter Queen arrives and says "WTF are you doing here bro?", then decides Tyrande can choose. She lets her choose renewal or vengeance, well she already neglected once, in the most important moment, her vengeance, so she had to choose between " Renewal or YoU DIe LOL!!1! xd"

I wish WoW had a story mode where you level doesn't matter and you don't have to group for dungeons/raids you can just solo everything and just enjoy the story. That'd make it a much more fun game for me, levelling is such a boring chore that I'm completely over the game and likely will never play it again.. but I do love the story. I am getting a little tired of people coping with the state of WoW's writing by writing justifications or assumptions for the writers. The fact is is that, if Elune truly had no idea the state of the Shadowlands and the Maw, nor even why her sister was crying out for help, her solution was to dump thousands of her "favored children's" souls into a completely unknown black box, thinking nothing of the consequences or ramifications of such an act. Elune is actually a complete moron who thinks nothing or her followers' lives and souls. her reaction is essentially to say "Oh, oops." when confronted with the truth. This is what is in game. This is all we have. Stop writing explanations for the writers when this is, objectively, what we directly have seen from Elune at this point.

i personally think the angry cries are a bit overreacting. Of course we dont see a bird-eye view ever since people complaiend about it verry loudly. i like that we have open questions, thats where future plots come from. anyway, i think that if we learned something from SL then that celestials, as omniscent they may seem, are still not perfect. every single one made at least one oopsie, elune was just "previously untouched" i personally think Elune "could have assisted her children better/maybe even prevented/turned into whisps" after Teldrassil, but "has chosen not to" becouse she knew of the peril in ardenweald, but the best she was able to do becouse [future story plot], was send a cascade of souls, wich failed duo to things Elune didnt knew. until we showed up, noone knew about the Jailor getting stronger either within the 4 realms we visited, so it shouldnt be suprising that someone from a completely different plain of reality had no idea, espacially if they have (as lightly hinted) been preopccupied. as for Tyrande, i personally think, as she said, she was still aware of what was happening arround her and had "semi talks" with elune, and was able to work through some questions while not consciously listenning becouse VENGEANCE. i eprsonally liked how the story was delivered and what we have to speculate about, its about time we get more questions openned then answered, ever since WoD started just closing chapters instead of starting new ones of this sort.

It's very shallow. This would have made sense if the Night Elves were forming up to invade Orgrimar. Rather than rebuild they take the scraps of their people that are left to throw them one last time at the Horde. That is how you 'choose vengeance' over 'choosing renewal'. A one on one fight is a stupid way of showing this.
