Can I just say, mad respect to the camera crew. Some of the shots they set up really puts emphasis on the themes of autonomy and structure in the boot camp life. If someone from that crew is reading this comment that was posted a year after the video came out, you are my heroes.

I'm an Army Veteran and I went to BCT at Fort Knox in 2004 (when it was still a BCT base). I have a lot of respect for all the military branches. We have our jokes, but at the end of the day, we're a team. I especially have respect for the ones who enlisted at ages 18,19 and 20. That's very young and still "babies." I enlisted in the Army "late" at 26 years old. I wasn't that mature at 18 and 19, and that to me deserves a lot of respect for the teenagers who enlist in the military. For the ones who want to enlist, don't take the yelling personally. It's to make you stronger mentally and physically with the rest of the training. We've all gotten yelled at and get treated badly. Everyone you see wearing a uniform was once in the same place as you. I know that in the Army Drill Sergeant School, they get yelled at and get treated badly, like in BCT. Also, schools like RANGER, Airborne, Air Assault, Special Forces; ext. get yelled at and get treated badly and even if you are an NCO and officer. It's part of the military way of special schools to "break" them again. But once you go to your unit, you won't be getting yelled at get treated with respect. Except of course if you do or say something stupid you will get in trouble. Take the training very seriously. The DS are passing the skills to you and giving you the torch. Have high respect for them. They get up very early too and away for long hours away from their families. I deployed to Iraq in 2005 - 2006, and that was one heck of an experience. And at times it feels surreal. Now as a civilian, I'm like "Wow, and did all that!" Don't get in trouble while in the military either. It's not worth losing your benefits when you become a civilian. All that hard work you put in, and not getting those VA benefits is not worth getting in trouble. Do what you are supposed to do, and do your best. And you will be good to go. I hope the trainees, trainers, and cadre can do a follow-up and see how are they doing.

I remember coming down with pneumonia the day we were heading back to the dorms from BEAST week. It hit me fast and it hit me hard. I was recycled about 10 days because of it and that's only because I brute forced my way into clearing myself by doing a 15 minute treadmill run while I'm still coughing up gunk. I really had to pester them to let me test out of the med flight (what a depression shithole that was). It was really hard seeing my original flight around the dorms and graduating before me. I did manage to strategically meet up with a bunch of them at the chapel one last time and passed on a note to be read by the whole flight. The MTI from my new flight told me to go to the dorm of my original flight on orders of my original MTI. I show up and they're all in the day room and presented me with the flight shirt. I got to say my proper goodbyes and left. Felt like a bit of my heart was left behind that night, but it was a moment I'd never forget. 323 FLT 100 2010-2011

Wow. I got very sick in basic, as well. Fought through it. Got to tech school (Sheppard) and went to sick call day 1. Was immediately admitted to the hospital and spent two weeks there. Luckily my tech school didn't start for 3 weeks. Amazing what the body can overcome when you set your mind to it. That was 30 years ago. If I get the sniffles now I feel like I am going to die. LOL.

There was NO TALKING during our obstacle course. No Laughing. The TI's were rough. One instance a TI yelled... "Female, why can't you get your sad sack self over that obstacle?" and then "Female, tell me no man is going to help you do your damn job in the Air Force." She replied, "No man will help me, sir. I can do it all by myself." Her second try, she made it over the wall! Do you think he motivated her or did she have it in her? Proud of all the females here.
@Mostlikelee
@Mostlikelee 7 ай бұрын
Why do you address women as females? I just kinda wanna know the purpose why some men do so. Ive never ran into anyone calling men “males” and recently have been seeing men addressing women as “females” its just kinda odd. Sounds more dehumanizing almost like a robot or a science project. Idk me and other women like always wonder why some men do that, often times the men who address women as females also show to have underlining resentment for them so it sometimes comes off condescending. Idk almost like when you see a baby and call it a neonate. People will look at you weird😂. Then again I also dont know where your from.

Yeah, when I went thru boot camp in 2000/2001 it was 6 weeks. I actually was in boot camp for 8 weeks because I failed my wall locker twice :(. I don't remember what the failures where I think strings and maybe some folded clothes. But after the second time my nose was in that locker, and I passed finally and graduated lol. Oh, the memories. I also had problems with my final fitness test almost as well. I barely did enough sit-ups to pass. My advice to folks is make sure you check your wall locker all the time and for fitness issues, make sure if you are weak on something, get that strength up in that area.

Went through back in March of 2017!!! A lot has changed. FEST week was Week 4 and we went through the gas chambers that week. BEAST Week was Week 5 and we were there from Monday morning through Friday Afternoon. We wore our blues Week 6 and had our final PT Test, BMTSG Test and Evaluations and practiced for Parade!! Week 7 was Graduation week where we saw our families. Week 8 was Airman’s Week where they took all the graduating Airmen from each training squadron and moved them to the 326th TRS. There at Airman’s Week, you were in a new flight and had new MTIs. They didn’t yell much, but they were strict as well. You broke up into groups and were given real world scenarios of situations that happened to Airmen as soon as they got to tech school.

Beast, Fest (I don’t even remember what that is), etc. don’t really matter - they are small parts of a curriculum in a big picture. Trainee Montgomery-Conley shows he can do anything, just still see some attitude, hard to describe. Believe some time in the regular Air Force may smooth out those rough edges. Thought from last week - if Trainee Montgomery-Conley is that tight on money, why have his wife come down for graduation? That money's going to be needed during tech school. He'd likely want to have his wife with him then. Trainee Bayless looked to be in his element, hope he made all the way through his pipeline training. Trainee Lollar adapted well, moved right on through. Believe she's a real asset to her unit. Hate to say this, but gut feeling is Trainee Rodriguez-Oliveros (sp?) is heading for the wrong AFSC. Doesn't seem to be a good fit for Security Forces, would say better for Law Enforcement, don't know if they are still two different things in today's AF. If not, then something else.

If you have been diagnosed by a doctor as having ADD/ADHD, you must meet the following requirements in order to apply: - Must be off medication for a minimum of 15 months. (You must be removed off of the medication by a doctor and it is written in your medical records. An applicant cannot just stop taking prescribed medications on their own.) - You must have a current note from primary care provider validating stable status with condition, must summarize the diagnosis, history of treatment, and should rule out any residual of ADD/ADHD - Show evidence of successful academic and work endeavors while off medication - Show evidence that applicant was not provided classroom aids such as private study area, special tutors, additional time to complete assignments or tests. Candidates who do not meet the standard of never having taken more than a single daily dosage of medication or not having been prescribed medication for their condition for more than 24 cumulative months after the age of 14 will be processed for a waiver if they have demonstrated at least 15 months of performance stability (academic or vocational) off medication. Waiver approval is not guaranteed. Are you currently taking medication? Ray U.S. Air Force and Space Force Recruiting

When I moved over to the security forces and we had to hit the range a lot more often. I kept failing on the M16. The instructors thought that I didn't add a shoot. One of the instructors took that rifle himself and tried to zero it and shoot it. He was way off just like I was. They pulled that rifle off the line and it turns out it was bent to the left. They gave me a different rifle was dead on with every shot.

I think you mean Camp Bullis. I was there in AP Tech School in Jan 67. No cold weather gear at all, just the lightweight OD green jacket. No hearing protection at the firing range. My ears hurt and rang for three days. Went back to Lackland with strept throat. Went to the dispensary and got some liquid antibiotics. Even though I was really sick with chills and fever, I managed to make it through the next week. Fortunately, the next week was classroom training. At that point, I sure didn't want to start Tech School all over again.
