If you see the whole story of Dune with Duncan as the main character, this really is the end of his story, finally free

Great that you finished the Dune series. I would like to see more book reviews from you. If you want to read more sci-fi, I recommend the expanse and three body problem series.

Frank Herbert was an extremely smart man and he knew the kinds of problems we would have in our society nowadays (you could make a parallel between Honorable Matres = OnlyFans and such)

I like the idea that Duncan, not having Siona's mark, needs to stay inside the no-ship otherwise their enemies will know where Chapterhouse is located

Sheeana and her control over the Sandworms is something we would've gotten in the seventh book, for sure, and that's a sad thought we didn't get it published

Sry for my English, but i'll try :D It's my HONEST and SUBJECTIVE opinion!!! SPOILERS!!!!!!!! Just finished the book 1 hour ago... And I'm absolutely delighted! For me, it's one of the best in the series and is a great finale to a fantastic series. Here's why: 1) First of all, the story isn't in the same tone as 1st book and even 2nd, 3rd, etc. For me, Heretics and Chapterhouse feel like some kind of variation of dystophy in the Dune universe. I love its odd style and approach to the motives of previous books. It feels similar, but also different. I love first 4 books (GEoD is my favourite) and even if I've been struggling a bit with 5th book - imo Chapterhouse is A WAY BETTER in every aspect. 2) Duncan's story is ended perfectly. I don't think any more book is necessary. He escaped from everything, that was determined, he dived into the "final unknown and independency". It fulfills the purpose of his character, his independence and free will, the true meaning of the Golden Path and beautiful summary of Leto's character. Very poetic and this last line of his final chapter gave me incredible chills. 3) Darwi Odrade is one of the best characters in the series. Very complex, emotional even beeing BG. Real Mother Superior, but also a human. Her character in 5th book was "ahh ok", but I loved her in Chapterhouse. Her death was meaningless, stupid and sad, but... is dead always reasonable? 4) Also Murbella was wonderful character. Her story arc was solid, suprising, heart breaking because of her relation with Duncan. Great character. 5) The motive with the transformation of Chapterhouse into "Dune" was one of the biggest pros in the book. Absolutely heartbreaking scene with Darwi and the Sea (one of my fv from 6th novel). Beautiful, moving and nostalgic story. From start to end. 6) I think the Honored Madres are underappreciated antagonists and (sry for that) more complex and interesting than Harkonnens (which i absolutely love). The lateral warped line of human evolution, they seem to be a real danger in this book and are not straight evil. They are just prisoners of their systems, which isn't so clear at first. Fantastic storyline and great antagonists. Dama's death is a perfect summary of defects and trapes of her rules. I could talk about it a lot more, but... I'm too tired and full of emotions right now. Have a great night!

Yet another great Dune review! Granted I never actually read or watched Dune so I got no idea But I will take your word for it. Have you read the Sean Connery medieval manhwa Old Man? It has Sean Connery. it has knights He does magic and shit. It's great

the issue was that the jihad wasn’t “machines, AI, etc.” it was just AI that is why they’re called “thinking machines”. Leto II is the one who first put up the idea of man and machine being combined
@StormbornDragon15 күн бұрын
if it was just “all machines” then there would be no space travel and most societies would be pre-industrial era which they’re very much not

As long as RealLife Ryan is on the Subject of Classic Sci-fi books, is there any chance he'll do Vampire Hunter D, considering how much he likes Horror & Anime? I'm reading allot for these coming years, and I started VH D recently, and it feels definitely like something RLR would be reading! 7+ 3 book volumes though...its like if he reads GOT!

To me it seems like the first four books kinda repeat the basic story. Guy embodies a chosen one narrative, initially fully on board with it himself and the future based on that narrative, and in the next book seeing the other side, that it was all a sham, or at least mistaken in some way. The first two books really tell it all in terms of subtext and themes regarding the whole series. 3 and 4 are kinda a retelling of the same overall narrative story. Guy is super confident that he will be the chosen one to bring forth the desired future (Golden Path), next book he's kinda rethinking things. Paul's story in a nutshell. And most importantly - the don't really progress ideas beyond the end of Messiah. The last two books were supposed to be something new, but even regardless of the missing seventh book, they seem to be completely devoid of that initial literary spark and basis that started it all, and are now more of a regular sci-fi wierd space opera story. I can't help but thing Herbert didn't had all of this in mind when he was writing the first book, and initially meant only for the story to be up to Messiah. I know there are things foreshadowed in the first two books that come to fruition later, but either those were just there as extra narrative details, or he hadn't thought as deeply about them as he did about the original story, and in the next books he's kinda repeating and restating himself, only in a grander order, because how else is he going to impress with yesterdays dish. Things change yet stay the same. I think by the time he is post book 4, his original ideas have been played out, and he didn't have any real narrative (meaning thematic and subtextual) ways or ideas to continue or enhance it, so he first just retold the same story but weirder and in a greater time span, then later tried for conventional space opera, just because Dune was bringing the money, and if he tried it under a new series and new world, it wouldn't have stood the test being compared to the Dune 1 and 2. Really the only essential Dune books in terms of literature are the first 2, the other are just fanservice in some way. It's those first book he took so many years researching for and envisioning, the rest just don't have that much new or interesting added t o them, they play off of the established ideas and don't really progress beyond them.
