I am traveling world cities where my followers and subscribers live and they are interested in learning expressive art direction. I hope you understand my recent video upload is slow, cause I should be in different cities every week. For last a couple months, I run workshops in Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seattle, Denver, New York, Montreal and etc. Next cities are Atlanta, Houston, San Jose, Florence, London, Paris, Los Angeles and etc. If you are interested in joining my workshop or tracking where I go, see my travel schedule at www.zinlim.com/class
On video uploading I will try my best to have some time to shoot new videos more frequently. Thanks for waiting!!!
At workshop I draw so many life size heads with a finger-size willow stick. I wanted avoid getting used to the same pattern. So, in this video, I used jumbo vine charcoal and drew a tiny portrait.

Hey, I actually like to use this method a lot when I do portraits and Ive been practicing it with photo studies for quite a while. It really is a great way to quick portraits with that expressive smokey look. One thing I hate though is getting all that charcoal off my fingers every time😁

So beautiful ! I'm an art student and I wondered myself : do you think the approach of portrait in volume like you do is an accessible way for students ? Or start with a solid drawing in line is more learnful and accessible ? (When I speak about volume I speak about big area of charcoal and sculpting in it, and when I speak about line I speak about drawing forms with line in 3d not just simply drawing what I see in 2d)
