Against monster with a good average elemental hitzone value elemental SAED spam. Seeing 200 to 300 per phials on a well landed SAED is a good feeling. On small monsters or monsters with no good element hitzone value SAX all the way. And of course I love me some Impact phials CB you don't have to bother with elemental weakness of the monster and just go UNGA BUNGA. Either SAED or SAX are viable options for RAW Impact phials CB.

letting everyone know the lamance terms of how guard works. just imagine a charged shield is +2 to guard, and a guard point to be +2 as well. so max level of “guard” is about 9 with full guard, a charged shield plus guard point. this would only be used for a handful of attacks in the whole game. guard 3 is a really comfy place to be because you get to 7 guard on a charged shield and GP hit. this is good for just about any attack in the game so you will never be staggered after a guard point. be careful going one guard level as some powerful attacks will stagger you even if you GP it. go have fun out there hunter!

Damn, i've been playing MHW and using charge blade all this time (594hrs, HR 200, MR 86) without any charging attacks at all -- i've just been using the extended axe attacks exclusively. 😑

I recently #ReturnToWorld learning the CB until Fatalis, completed HR phase, currently HR 100, After doing all the Event Quest and HR KT farm, I will be moving to MR. Thanks for sharing your build, I will alter according to my liking. I main HBG, first playthrough was using HBG 1600 hours in total, and in Sunbreak, 700 hours, because I can't stand anomaly grinding...... so WORLD CB it is.

yes! and affinity only really boosts raw damage anyway! safi gives +40% and so does critical eye 7, so that's 80% and the melee hits are only useful if you're playing savage axe. phials can't crit anyway, WEX is definitely useful if you want to play savage axe tho

Great guide sir but, At 4:34 you mentioned that Savage Axe mode is dependent on a charged shield, that you'd be incorrect. You can enter Savage Axe mode without a charge shield, all you need is charged Phials. Now you may do more damage with a charged shield, but you don't need one to enter Savage Axe. So the shields up time is irreverent for Savage Axe play style. Now the case for Power Prolonger giving more time per Savage Axe Phial is a thing.

it would work, but it's definitely not as good as something that would boost up elemental like maybe Namielle ele acceleration with velkhana's 2 piece (for early endgame), Safi is best for element far and above tho

Is CB a good status weapon like paralyze or its better to just go raw dps and elemental?

you definitely can use paralysis, if that's what you like, that would probably be best with savage axe style. I think the Kjarr Para CB would be best for pure status. Blast and Poison CBs were the meta for a while, so those are viable raw options too (raging brachy CB or gold rathian CB).

A high level player I know uses velkhana Y for elemental builds because he says the damage is almost the same as safi but without the drawbacks of missing but everywhere I look never mentions velk armour? Is he right or not?

safi is best, the velk y parts are very useful in a lot of other elemental scenarios (like bow uses the legs with 4 pieces of Fatalis), but for SAED style ele CB, safi is the big dog

i usually say small monster SA big monster SAED. only cuz those smaller monsters can be really easy to miss with full SAED. ik the numbers don’t exactly match with that but if i cant hit the monster with my SAED then im losing damage anyways.

this is the most uncomfy set in your elemental build. I have the 4 piece fatalis armor and kulve taroth leg, and I just slot everything in, i always managed to topple alatreon 2 times before the escaton judgement. And my build is really comfy, 200 hp with lifesteal

Even 3 piece safi with 2 piece velkhana is better than your proposed set. that's not to say your set is *bad*, but it's certainly not better, like you claim

artillery 3 is +30%, artillery 5 is +50%, that doesn't seem like a waste to me... that's a 1.67x damage increase going from 3 to 5. I'm sure at some point it was, when you had to use zorah parts to get it, then it was probably less efficient than other skills, but with Fatalis bonus allowing us to get it at level 5 with all the other damage boosting skills, I just don't see any way where it's 'a waste'

That was on Zorah parts in High Rank. With iceborne artillery secret is definitely back on the menu because you can get it on incredibly efficient pieces. The Raging Brach set is a powerhouse pre-fatalis because all of the pieces are so loaded with high priority skills on top of agitator and artillery secret.

The long and short of it is that you need to make 50% of all your damage phial damage to make it worth it for CB. Lemme know what you think

It’s broken alright… I almost quit MHW early on because I picked it. I got my ass kicked at every turn, getting caught in long animations while monsters stomped on me 😂. Never could hit the ults, worried about phials, etc. then switched to a combo of IG, SnS, and lance and I was finally able to progress. Now I am adding long sword for good measure…
