The transitions take place from low energy to high energy .. In MLCT although the ligand decreases its energy and metal increases it, still the energy of metal is less then that of the ligand .. so the transition takes place from low energy metal orbital to high energy ligand orbital that is very much evident from the figure from which you explain MLCT

In IrBr62−, which is a d5 complex, two absorptions, one near 600 nm and another near 270 nm, are observed. These are assigned as two LMCT bands, one to t2g and another to eg. The 600 nm band corresponds to transition to the t2g MO and the 270 nm band to the eg MO.
