You cannot set for 60 amps, that will overload the NEMA 14-50 outlet, the max breaker setting should be 50. Only if you hardwire you can use a 60 amp breaker

Correct, if you wanted to do the plug-in option for a 60-amp circuit breaker, you’d need a NEMA 14-60 outlet.

I'm SOOOOOO uncomfortable with the cable touching the rail of the garage door. Moving parts with hi-voltage/hi-amps is not a good installation sorry.

Thanks for the really helpful video. I notice that you were able to use your 60 amp circuit for plug-in. It seems that the app has changed and if plug-in is selected the only options are 40 or 50 amp circuits; to choose a 60 amp circuit, hardwire needs to be selected. Is it still okay to use a 60 amp circuit for plug-in by just selecting 50 amp from the plug-in configuration?

The location that u selected is exactly why GFCI is a requirement
@jamesdaniel947
@jamesdaniel947 11 ай бұрын
The requirement for a code mandated (in KY) GFCI breaker, is exactly why this unit will not work properly at any of the available amps, except the lowest (maybe). ChargePoint recommends a hardwire installation in that case, but goes further, "We do not recommend using a GFCI breaker as the Home Flex already has integrated charging circuit interrupting device (CCID) protection. Using a GFCI breaker in the panel, especially with a plug-in installation, can cause nuisance breaker tripping in certain circumstances and interrupt charging." What is a mother to do?

Hardwire is the only way to go…. That way you don’t have a receptacle to protect

BTW, you have to have a separate email address for each of the charging stations you want to install... so I have to create a new email address for the charger at my vacation home... kind of sucks that way.

Another option, to get the full 50amp capability, is to hardwire and eliminate the plug all together.
@cube1us

ChargePoint makes a significant point to not have the wire that comes from the unit that goes into the outlet be stretched that tight. Folks should look at their installation instructions for details on that.

Hey @David 4gtr and thanks for the feedback and question! I am glad you enjoyed the video! The plug receptacle was bought at a local electrical hardware store. It came with a cover, but I remove it when I record videos. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions and please Like and Subscribe if you haven't done so already! Happy charging!

ChargePoint suggests using a coin to fasten the inside cover in place rather than a screwdriver. The screwdriver is too narrow and can cause damage to the plastic. Also ChargePoint recommends that the charger be offset to the right from the outlet box rather than having the outlet box directly underneath of it. They make a big point of this in their instructions.

Customer service from the company is HORRIBLE. My home charger stopped working after 6 months. That's not ideal but wasn't the disappointing part. The customer service believes in not providing service, not being helpful and using the line "beyond my capacity" at every opportunity. A request for service, once filed, needs to be escalated and reviewed. If ok, then transferred to another supervisor who I think decides whether to send your request to a different department that might be able to help you. Could take anywhere from a few days to a week to resolve - I'm still waiting for an email from the supervisor (#2) to say that they'll send me a replacement. In the meanwhile, my car is sitting in the driveway out of juice. My recommendation - don't get this product. Don't work with this company.

Man, so tired of these "how to" videos that misinform people and blatantly violate electrical safety rules. You can't have a 60 amp breaker with a 50 amp plug.

Very good and helpful installation instructions, thanks. One note: the app has apparently been updated since your video. Under my Settings (Hamburger>Home Charger>Settings), I don't see the option to change amperage, so whatever I put in upon my original setup cannot be changed, unless I guess I start a new account, or maybe delete the app and reinstall and re-configure the Charger again. Fortunately I am sure I got it right the first time, but it doesn't allow me to see what I inserted at the setup like it does in your video.

Excellent video! I have the same two door garage and intend to install a wood panel between the doors; is this a 1/2 inch thick panel or 1 inch? I plan to install a 28”x11”X1/2” panel and wonder if this is sufficient strong for the weight of Charger and cable. Cheers!

@@tonys9413 thank you! Wow, you are right....that's crazy and definitely not worth $1,500. I checked on their website and it says both the 6-50 and 14-50 options are back ordered. Must be a ton of people buying them right now. Once they get more inventory back in the price should hopefully go back down to $699 like it's always been. The Juicebox is another good option to look at (although I like the ChargePoint better).

I have a prius prime. I'm now looking at the plug needed for charging the car. I was told a regular 110 outlet will do. However, while reading the instructions to the plug, it requires a GFCI and an over current circuit breaker in the panel. Do you have a video on this set up? I'm looking and not finding anything

Thank you! I used screwdriver with bit provided to screw in the screws on the bottom by hand. Didn't want to get too close to the red wire with the drill speed. Have 30A outlet and installed the 6-50 ChargePoint. Selected 30A on the app, b/c it only gives option for 40 or 50 for the plug-in. My Niro EV is charging as we speak. It worked!

Can I use the 240V electric stove port (14-50) by moving to Garage and if yes, how much max amps do I need to set the Chargepoint unit to? 32A ? Pls advise and thanks in Advance

Hello, firstly thank you for your explanatory video. I want to ask somethink. Firstly, When we are using mobile app, we don't add any code or any specific think about our charger on mobile app. We just add plug-ig/hardware information. How mobile app know our charger id or any other specification about our charger (the information at the About Charger). Secondly is there any option to use my charger without Wi-Fi (offline scenario) Thank you.

It does not work. Led first green and then turns white. Chargepoint with problems. I can start a remote charge without being connected to the car. Possibly problem servers. Account problem. Fixed white led. A simple charger without app or internet is better to charge your car. Without complications.

Can the app track usage on a per vehicle basis? I'd like to know how much charging I'm doing with my car vs how much my roommate is charging with his car. Would we have to have separate ChargePoint accounts or share one?

14:59 The app asks you the breaker size? I thought (from reading some other instructions) that you [need only] stipulate the actually amperage your EV will accept. I want to install a CP Home Flex NEMA 14-50 onto a 40-amp breaker, then select 32 amps for my Volvo XC40.
@spl1011
@spl1011 2 жыл бұрын
You select the amperage the EV will accept thru the car itself. The car IS (or contains) the charger. The chargepoint only needs to know what the rating is for the installation. The chargepoint is not a car charger in that it regulates the current depending on battery state of charge. It has no idea what the cars state of charge is.

Informative video, thank you. Can someone explain why CP limits charging to 48 amps when a 60 amp hardwire circuit is used (THHN 90*C wire 4 ft run)? To get the full 50 amp capability, CP requires a 70 amp breaker.
@tren133
@tren133 3 жыл бұрын
I think it is something about only using 80% of rated amperage, e.g. 60 x 0.8 = 48 amp, and that's related to safety concerns because oftentimes it will be pulling that current sustained for multiple hours so you don't want to run it right at the upper limit of the circuit's rated capacity.
@bomatdaman
@bomatdaman 3 жыл бұрын
Also, I know the CP unit must be double insulated to only require a 3-wire installation. But can you tell if the unit's frame has any metal components? If so, my inclination is to run a neutral wire to the ground lug and ground the frame chassis as a precaution. If not, I plan to still run four #6 wires to the unit for future units that may require that setup.
@gao57009
@gao57009 3 жыл бұрын
You entered in the App setup that you were on a 60 amp breaker. According to other videos, if a 6-50 or 14-50 plug is on the unit, it should be on a 50 amp breaker which will deliver 40 amps during charging. If you want 48 amps to be delivered, a 60 amp breaker is needed, BUT it needs to be HARD- WIRED. Can you explain?
