In 1983, I had a relative that lived in Memphis and visited us from time to time. We ran a shop at the time near the Tennessee border with Kentucky and he was in town and asked if we could take a look at his 1979 Mercury Monarch. The car was equipped with the 4.1 liter (250 c.i.d.) engine with the 1 bbl. Carter YF carburetor. The car had very low mileage and my dad suggested we give the car an "Italian" tune up. So, we took the car on a new 4-lane road near the shop and he floored the acceleration pedal. The car only had 85 on the speedometer and the needle was well past that. Suddenly, a Kentucky State Police Trooper appeared going the opposite direction in a 1981 Dodge St. Regis with a 5.9 liter (360 cu.in.) engine. He had to go about 1/2 mile before he could turn around and dad never slowed. Dad turned down the road to the shop and we drove in the garage and closed the door and waited. We switched cars and went back to town and the officer was cruising the parking lot at a shopping center and then drove off. (The State Police Post was just up the road.) Weeks later, one of the county officers my dad knew said there was a call that went out about a speeding Monarch driven by a guy wearing a baseball cap. The state and county hated each other (the state police still gets referred to as the "Grey gods.") so, the county officer told the state officer that they got outrun by a 6-cylinder Monarch. They never told it was my dad. Then dad told me NEVER do that. GREAT VIDEO!
