It was a great idea to start doing this post-film podcast. It's always great to see more qualified discussion about football, not just the same talking points repeated everywhere or first reactions after a game. Your memory lies. It's important to rewatch the tape to confirm or contest your first impressions. Great job.

I so appreciate this feedback! Means the world to us. I can tell it's grown most weeks (when they win) and that people appreciate a little more in-depth work

Herbert is one of those rare quarterbacks that can throw his receivers open, and make everyone around him better with his play. When people talk about players who are called “generational talents” based on their physical gifts, their play in college, and how they are projected to be able to play in the NFL, rarely do they actually become one… Just look at Bijan Robinson, Trevor Lawrence, Marvin Harrison Jr, or Kyle Pitts, for example … So far, none of them have even been close. It’s early, and it’s still possible Robinson might become one of those players, but it’s pretty unlikely the other ones will. It’s now safe to say, Herbert is one of those players, and he wasn’t projected to be one like those other players were. Watching him play is truly breathtaking, and I’m so happy he is a Charger!

Hey Steve & Tyler.. I just wanted to tell you both that after what happened last season… when things fell apart completely, and near the end of the season after another loss, Staley said something like he couldn’t care less about what the fans thought about the season and his coaching decisions… we were all in shock about how it came down to that, and how bad we were after all the optimism we had going into the season. The two of you were there to help us all get through it one step at a time when we needed you most. Step by step, you guided us through the firing of Telesco and Staley, the hiring of Ortiz and Harbaugh- and the rest of their staff, moving off of a bunch of players including Allen and Williams, and the draft and free agency. During each of those steps, you both put in tons of work in order to help us understand what was going on, and why certain choices were made. After that, the mini camps started.. then we got to when spring training began. You both guided us through the entire process, up to the first exhibition game, and ending with defeating the Raiders last weekend. Now we are here, talking about the 11-6 Chargers and our first playoff game against the Texans on Saturday.. Hundreds of podcasts, and thousands of hours of preparation went into the coverage of the team, and you delivered it all to us for free! Like many of us, I subscribed, liked, commented on your shows, and I also became a member to show my appreciation for everything you’ve done and will continue to do. I just wanted you both to know that I am extremely grateful for everything you’ve done and will do as we charge into the first playoff game against the Texans. I’m sure there are thousands of other Chargers fans that feel exactly the same way I do.. so please take some time to let all of this love sink in fully ❤️ Mike Haas.. aka @Michael_Boltman

There was a point on the broadcast where Herbert is sitting on the bench, next to Stick, perhaps, and he talks to 1 of the women who works with the training staff (about a bandage or a new sock or something - he rubs his knee as he talks to her & you can see that the sock is torn) and the backup QB shakes his head in disbelief. I can almost read his mind, "This guy isn't human," he seemingly thinks. People aren't supposed to be able to do whatever does.

Was really proud of q. You could tell from the first drive he had a different aura about him. There was a confidence in the way he was moving and carrying himself that was noticeable from the start. Thought he looked good but didn't expect that.

Happy belated birthday Steven! Hope you enjoyed your special day. I think you are both on when it comes to the edge rusher room. I think there have been too many underwhelming performances by all of them at different times of the season. Khalil has been by far the most consistent.

Having QJ somehow get going on his potential and become successful is an amazing development. I had set my expectations to just not expect much from him, and have him phase out at year 5. I hope this is just the start of a great career for him. The Chargers desparately need him to be a great player, but I'll take just a reasonably competent WR2.

On the 4th quarter comeback stuff, idk how people say Herbert isn't clutch but guys like Burrow are. Herbert has 12 4QC and 16 GWD. Burrow has 6 4QC and 9 GWD. Herbert's numbers are on par with Mahomes in these metrics (slightly lower).

I know this was directed at Steven since he brought it up, but for me I looked at their two most recent games where starters played. I thought about watching earlier games, but they lost a number of significant players

When Steve said he watched 2 Texans games already and was going to watch 2 Texans games tomorrow, where did he find the recordings of those games? I’d really love to watch a few as well! Do I have to be a professional analyst? Do I need to have a paid membership with NFL+, or NFL ALT 22? How can I make that happen?
@LightiningHobo

Idk if the official NFL subscription (nfl+? Nfl network?) has the all 22 film. I believe it has the condensed games - a 40 min cut with just the plays. There's also free pirate sites that has recorded games. Google it and try your luck. Maybe your country might be blocking them. If that's the case you need to use a VPN.

NFL+ has every game on All-22 replay. If you pay for the premium option you can sort by individual plays too. Very easy to use.

I really dislike when people get personal and straight up vicious about players they don’t think are performing as well as they should. That said, I think it’s also fair to express frustration when players like QJ have games like against BAL. I don’t like hearing “that’s not his game” when talking about a 6’2” athletic receiver drafted in the first round. It should be his game, but alas it’s not. Except for the big drop that was perfectly thrown (no excuse for that) almost every pass Justin was throwing needed QJ to leave his feet or adjust his body while running and covered and he straight up CANNOT DO THAT. He has very little body coordination when he’s over saturated with physical and mental tasks. Flip to this week, Justin threw it to him exactly where it needed to be; in front of him with no defender between him and the ball, his feet planted firmly on the ground. This allowed him to body catch a lot of balls which is his safety net. Not ideal but at this point of the season who cares. The one hander was just a great catch but also exactly where it needed to be if QJ is going to make that play. Also I think Joey is cooked unfortunately. He’s giving his all and his body is just not responding. It’s a bummer but I also think it’s just reality unfortunately.

I noticed that in this game a lot of his receptions his body was turned towards the QB. He doesn't have a lot of catches when his back or his side is turned towards the QB. Those missile throws are hard to catch. Scheming so QJ is facing herbert when the ball is supposed to arrive might have been a factor in him being able to catch more than 5 passes.

Zeke has some good plays left in him, he was with trash offenses last two seasons . Of course he’s not what he was first 5 years in the league but there’s value there as backup

Fun fact: in the medical world, when you say an “MRI came back positive” it means the results were confirmed for some sort of issue. Negative is actually good. Positive is bad when confirming suspicions of injury. lol so when I heard you say results from Slater’s MRI came back positive, you made my heart stop for a sec!
