The 9th generation is the newest, so I assume there are nine! Some of the earlier generations may have just been prototype builds and may not have been released to the public though, I'm not sure. The 9th generation has more easily accessible volume controls than the 8th and a LiPoly battery instead of an NiMH battery, giving it a longer run time.
