I felt so too, but I wonder if Rodrigo was quite confused.. having been exposed like that on a tv. He was quite in denial about the whole relationship when it was talked about. I don't know if he was a bit ashamed of it or just confused. He's living as a she now.. he was probably getting starting to explore with those feelings back then already. I dunno.. I feel like it's complex. But for sure there was undeniable chemistry between them. And Charlie is a sweetie =)
