It is the voltage difference ! for me when I moved to the US it was the opposite , I would plug my curling iron and after 40 minutes it was still barely warm !!! I miss London so much, glad you had a great time! When we lived there, I took over my straightener and that thing go super smokey, I had to stop using it. Glad you're ok! Whenever you travel to other countries, make sure of the voltage differences and make sure your appliances can handle higher (or lower) voltage! If your curling iron is from America, it's probably set to operate under 110v that the US uses, so the jump to 240v in the UK fried it. Same thing happened to my flat iron my stepmom got me from the US without realizing it wouldn't handle Asia's double voltage and I burned a chunk of my hair as the flat iron melted too haha -_-

Charisma Star If you just use a plug converter it does not deal with it, but if you use a special power converter (those really big more expensive things) it should!

Charisma Star Yes, an outlet converter only changes the shape of an outlet~ You'd need a transformer to change the voltage, and then make sure you have the correct one; a step down transformer to lower the voltage in countries with higher voltage, or a step-up transformer to raise voltage~

some devices have transformers in them to deal with the voltage differences.. such as phone chargers and laptop chargers.. they usually say on the plug what voltages they can handle.. my phone charger (apple) says it can handle 100-240 volts.. just check your devices.. on hairdryers and stuff of the like they occasionally have switches to change between 110 and 240

Ian Yes, major electronics like phones and laptops usually are built to handle high voltage~ But as a girl who travels back and forth between Asia and the US a lot, I can't stress enough that most American flat irons/curlers and electric razors do not! So yes, always make sure to check the voltage abilities on your appliances :)

I had a similar situation that happened to me with my hair but it was a flat iron that burned it off. Took about a good 2 or 3 years to finally grow back to my natural length.
