As far as finding any quality vinyl or CD's at thrift stores have been rare at best for a long time but I am a big fan of 'Avalon.' I saw that tour in Vancouver, Canada in 1982 and it was the only Roxy Music album I owned for years. Any early Elton John records are excellent, especially that one. It's one of my favorites of his. Nice job again Carl!

Hi Tom. CDs from charity shops are drying up, but at least I've found a few LPs in recent months ... I've never seen Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry live, so I'm very envious that you saw them back in 1982 ... I've been blown away by 'Elton John'. Cheers, Carl

Hi Carl - Yes, I am in top top form today. Avalon is really quite good, IMHO. I think "elegant pop masterclass" is the right description. I appreciate that Elton John record too. That's an interesting take n The Wishing Chair. I wish I could find anything half as good as these in my local thrift stores.
@carltweed9429 ай бұрын
Hi Brian. I just replied to Mike MGK Boston saying I'm loving 'Avalon'; so it's definitely not a bore at the moment. I'd certainly settle for a new Roxy Music album in the same style. Yes, an 'elegant pop masterclass' sounds about right ... I was willing myself to like 'The Wishing Chair'. I just couldn't get to grips with the vocals ... Charity shops have really gone downhill. I'm finding very little at the moment, apart from sealed DVDs for 20 pence where I can cannibalise the clean cases ... The strings on Elton John are exquisite. Simply divine. All the best, Carl

Hi Carl - yes we have thrift stores, but gotta say I had much more fun buying at your Charity shops when I visited. I get so much great information and history from your channel. Love your videos. Tunnel of Love is my favorite - go-to Springsteen album. Love that album. I love that Elton John album. I actually discovered many songs from Elton's live in Australia with Orchestra album and then went back to that album. Love those arrangements as well. Great video as always

Hi Alan. Thanks for your support. I was never a big fan of Springsteen. Eventually I realised what a wonderful songwriter he is. 'Tunnel Of Love' feels personal ... The exquisite arrangements on 'Elton John' and the purity of his vocals stunned me. It's now a candidate for my favourite Elton John album. Take care, Carl

Hi Racer. I wish they'd been a day's purchases. It was a number of visits to various charity shops over a few weeks. There's always the anticipation of what might be found; and often friendly staff and customers to have a chat with ... I've really enjoyed the Bruce Springsteen and Elton John albums. It's still chilly here at the moment, so I may put the Jimmy Buffett record on again this weekend to lift my spirits. Roll on Springtime!! Thanks for stopping by, Carl

Hey Carl. Very nice finds. I agree with your assessment of Avalon, which I consider more of a Bryan Ferry solo record, with the band only playing a strictly session men role. That Elton John is top two definitely along with Tumbleweed. Nothing but rubbish in our “thrift” stores I’m afraid. Cheers.
@carltweed9429 ай бұрын
Hi. I was actually going to say 'Avalon' sounds like a Ferry solo album; but at the last minute I thought that was a little unfair on Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay ... 'Tumbleweed Connection' was my favourite Elton John album. Now it's neck and neck with 'Elton John'. So pleased to have it on vinyl ... There is loads of rubbish in the charity shops I go to too. I need a lot of patience to find anything of interest. It's even getting hard to find quality CDs. Thanks for watching and commenting, Carl

Hi Mike. I'm forever stumbling over second-hand Roxy Music LPs. Unfortunately most of them have seen better days. This isn't a bad copy of 'Avalon'. There are just occasional crackles and pops in the quiet passages. I must be in a mellow mood at the moment, as I'm loving the album. Cheers, Carl

Hi Steve. I think Springsteen did the right thing going from 'Born In The USA' to 'Tunnel Of Love'. He didn't want to be pigeon-holed ... Growing up in the glam rock era, Roxy Music made a massive impression on me with 'Virginia Plain', 'Pyjamarama' and 'Do The Strand'. But I do like the later material too. Best wishes, Carl

Hi JT. Yes, it's a very clean copy of 'Tunnel Of Love' (superb; I'd never heard it before). I got it at the same time as 'Avalon' ... It's always been difficult to find clean copies of Steeleye Span LPs, so I was pleased to finally get 'All Around My Hat' ... Just checked out a track by Aztec Two Step, as I'd not heard of them. It reminded me a bit of America, CSNY, early Eagles ... Today I picked up an Australian CD comp of Mink Deville (every track is excellent; I saw them live back in the day) and also a Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick CD.
