On April 22nd, 2012, at the age of 88, the legendary French singer, songwriter and composer Charles Aznavour performed a concert at the Universal (Gibson) Amphitheater in Los Angeles. As he took the stage, following the opening number, he performed the song, "To My Daughter" after which he announced that he wrote that song many years ago for his first daughter, and now just the day before was the wedding of his granddaughter in Los Angeles. Then he said, "I know what you're thinking. That I didn't come here for you, but for my granddaughter's wedding"!! He then said that he actually came for both occasions!
His family and the whole orchestra flew to Los Angeles to attend the wedding, and then the next night they all continued the celebration at the concert. The bride and the groom were present in the audience as well.
In addition to French, the 88 year old genius singer sang songs at ease and off the top of his head in English, Spanish and Italian. He performed on stage for close to 2 hours, mostly on his feet. Aznavour had as good a stamina, endurance and memory as his younger days.
It was indeed an unforgettable evening!!
The song Mourir D'aimer (To Die of Love), an Aznavour classic was edited from the Live recording of that concert.
