I too was brought up by a violent, overbearing tyrant of a father, so I can sympathize with all of the mental issues Charles had to deal with all his life. I lived a mostly reclusive life after serving in Vietnam and suffered frequent bouts of depression. My father died in 2003 and I didn't shed a single tear for him at his funeral.

Really fascinating stuff, Charles was a very talented artist and intelligent man. In the book "Crumb family comics" you are able to read excerpts from letters that he had written to Charles and you get insight into a man that is equally sensitive and demented, all while written in a prose that is clear and charming.
