Music had no countries, boundaries and religion. This is a great example of it. INDIA,US and EUROPE what a talent. we have never heard Zakir Hussein singing or playing on Jazz music. He and his father are the legends from Indian music but this is a lot different than what they do in India.....Charles wow he is still the same.

+Sachin Manolkar I respect and agree with what you are saying but Zakir does have history playing music that is at least heavily jazz influenced - Shakti and more recently the Remember Shakti lineups with John McLaughlin for instance.

+Sachin Manolkar I think maybe you need to learn a bit more about Zakir's background. He has lived in the U.S. for decades. He was Mickey Hart's roommate decades ago. He has been exposed to music from all over the world for a very long time.

I can't begin to tell you how this performance and others like it have changed my life. By following Eric Harland, Brian Blade, Ali Jackson and a host of other fine drummers, they have taken me to musical places that otherwise would have gone unnoticed given where I live. But none of that would have been possible if it were not for the people that take the time to research and post these fine shows. I'm forever grateful for your efforts. PEACE

Charles Lloyd flowing verses from the Bhagavad-Gita over a peaceful drone starting about 50 minutes in...sublime The whole thing is quite wonderful (Zakir playing a blues bass line in his tabla solo, what a cheeky joke!) but that section is particularly enveloping if you allow it to be

This is really beyond description. I'm not even sure it is "music." To the final note it drives deeper and deeper to the heart of reality. Thank you.

Too good. Sir Zakir singing was like touching sole. And Sir Charles with flute was like heaven. Master Eric is more like the glue. Excellent Sir Eric: Seen you in SFJAZZ with Sir Zakir and made me feel this..

My God that is awesome. The best of what Jazz has to offer. I caught Zakir in contest once. The best. Jazz has always been "world" based in some ways, and many groups have been doing this for years, Oregon, John McLaughlin, and so forth. The more the better.

Tullys you are so right. So many great young drummer leaders, geniuses in many ways-Eric Harland of course, Antonio Sanchez, Dafnis Prieto, Chris Dave, Tyshaw Sorey, and others. Such creativity. The death of the record industry has allowed so much diverse music to be recorded in other ways.

If playing tabla to jazz is possible, I guess playing tabla to rock is a great idea too! So glad we haver people like Ustad Zakir Hussain to show us how it's done! And to guide us and constantly inspire us through everything.

I experienced this ensemble at the Boulder Theater about two years ago. It was one of the most transforming performances of the last 40 years of going to hear live music. What would happen, if all world leaders were locked in the same performance space with these three beautiful and musically-amazing souls?

They are incredible musicians. Also the young Eric Harland (the drummer) is already a legend. He played - among others - with McCoy Tyner! And how many people know that Charles Lloyd has left bits of his art in albums by Greatful Dead, Byrds, The Beach Boys... and that he lived in the magic place of Big Sur, California? Thank you for this amazing, entertaining video!

I can’t believe this was done by a trio and 2 of them are percussionists … yet their performance is melodic and has the width and depth of a quartet or even a quintet. What an amazing trio! At this time Charles Lloyd must have been around 75 and was still very innovative and energetic.

Big Sur is a strange strange place. Henry Miller wrote about how it would become a tourist destination and of course it has. The Locals that I have run into are a mixed bag of reliant on that tourist income and being self sufficient. But both have a tinge of bitterness of what Big Sur has become in regards to human intrusion. I love it there and camp out at least once a year. I know of the 'magic' you speak of and it is both light and dark.

In addition to being a very overrated jazzman, Lloyd is the other of totally stupid and laughable quotes such as this one: ''Women are as connected to music as women are to Africa. Women are all connected to the land and music is connected to the land. The drums come from Africa and have supernatural powers. Women and drums must be respected. I'm a shaman, I go out into nature, I talk to the trees and plants'' or ''I am a shaman, I go out into nature, I talk to the trees and plants'' ....LOL!
