That’s why he got to build a cult around him. If you speak well enough and with enough charisma people will be drawn to you regardless of what you said is true or not. Charles Manson could TALK, but ultimately he said nothing of substance.

I haven't looked into his case too much, but there's this guy called styxhexenhammer666 who generally does very good analysis and imo is usually right about stuff and he said manson should have never gotten life in prison but when he did, he started acting like this because it basically helped him survive and live better in prison because it would make dangerous criminals respect him / leave him alone, people would send him money, he would get visits from females etc.

Basically, they taught him how to dehumanize these women and make killers out of them as well as how to make them treat him like a pack-leader. None of that was his "charisma" although that might be partly why they profiled him. They also taught him hypnotism. What I want to know is, half the ppl in jail are there as "accessories." It is a super common legal concept. There is no way Manson did not know what it was. BUT, he flaked the night of the murders which seemed like he thought he was going to end up innocent, somehow. But, at that time, they had the death penalty. So, it was either, he wanted to die and expeccted to, OR, he thought he was going to get out of it somehow. He definitely did not want to die. But, it doesn't make senst that he would get all the complicated stuff right for like two years then blow such a stupid thing.
