An artist truly deserving of MUCH more attention! The late 60's and early 70's was a very special time for music. Searching for foundation, for freedom. Guideposts to a meaningful journey of discovery. Intentionaly uplifting. Not confident that this remains in the music of today.

I got this record on vinyl in Toronto the 1980s. Now I listen to it on CD. I gotta tell you, folks: in three decades, the music has never bored me.

Man, there are so many great Charles Tolliver tunes out there... definitely one of the most underrated musicians of all time in this idiom. Simply great work! Thanks for sharing.

Listened to this incessantly while a jazz studies major in college. It really feels like the NYC jazz scene in the seventies. Searching, brooding, on fire.

Thank you, thank you, and bless you for having this up. I have The Ringer and Paper Man on vinyl (no turntable) and have been joansing for Tolliver. He is a very special musician and trumpeter. I think of him as Freddie Hubbard on psycilocybin.

Charles Tolliver and Stanley Cowell co-founded Music Inc. But they had a differnce of opinion with regard to their own recording label, Strata East. So, Cowell left the group. However, stanley cowell is still one of the most influential pianists.

I love Tolliver. Thanks for this. Any reason why Paper Man and other entire albums are not on KZbin? I have the vinyl LP's Paper Man and The Ringer (which this track is from). Paper Man features an all star ensemble, including Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Joe Chambers and Gary Bartz. Tolliver is special. Too bad we don't have more of him!
