I love it when an artist is so comfortable with their own ability that they can perform, even in front of hundreds or thousands, as if they were just singing for her/himself in their own living room, for their own enjoyment. So casual and natural.

Watching this a day later, clarifying what's so unique here: he is publicly singing *without seeming to "perform" * ; he knows his art and personality are on such a level that all he has to do is *be himself* , not reaching for anything beyond that, and he is so over-the-top French to his core, he simply has to croon in his most natural, unselfconscious, casual way, to dazzle the audience because its the purest distillation of the French aesthetic: appreciating beauty and life.

Quand il est monté sur scène et que Drucker lui demande la Mer (cela rime) j'ai éclaté de rire ! C'est dingue ! Trenet pris par surprise et je suis presque sûr que c'était improvisé 100% avec cet Orchestre qui joue bien trop lentement . . . Puis le texte américain qui fait défaut . . . Mais je suis persuadé qu'il aurait pu refuser la "Surprise" de Stéphanie . . . Mais quel Talent et quelle Voix ! Et Drucker qui a réussi avec Charles que la télévision ne soit pas l'épouvantail de ce soir-là . Il ne devait pas aimer la télé, Charles . . . Sauf la regarder ! 😂 ET quand il était seul. Avec ses amis, pas de musique sauf des chants autour de la table. Souvenir de la Varenne Saint Hilaire . . .
