All bass technique aside (because there was plenty of talent on display here), Daniel's choice of adding harmonics at the beginning, and then the bend into dissonance/subsequent resolution while he was mean-mugging at 7:12 sealed it for me. I would say, however good they are, you couldn't really name someone a winner if they're not actually playing an actual bass. Having said that, No8 Marco Zarco blew me away. I love how he translated the bass line to a midi wind instrument. And the sound was great. No9 Daniel Ray was amazing. Such a great range of technique and boy were those fingers fast. Just so you know, I wrote the previous comments before I watched you announce your winners list. Glad you agreed with my choice. Tough competition. That was a super talented bunch. Way beyond anything I can do, but I'm hoping to take leaps in the coming year.

You have incredible slap rythmic quality playing, I havent heard anything like this from years. All guys hear are not even close to that how you do slap rythm with cosmic sounding precision including our loved Charles :) I am deeply shocked. In Poland still lives bass giant Krzysztof Ścieranski, your slap rhytm is very simmiliar to his huge rythm slap building. If you have time it is good to explore that guy, for all I see you can be pretty close to his harmony feeling. Few first examples :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iojSYqSPfqaWj6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJOyc2h8od-phdk kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3ymqWWel95oabs kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYrNdoufbcdjY68

@@BoogieBMWE34 Yo! Yeah sure I was using my Fender Jazz Elite Bass & because I was on the road when I recorded this I didn't actually have my chorus pedal so I just used the chorus plugin within Logic pro X. And that was about it apart from a little bit of compression with the MXR bass compressor pedal. My bass was set passive and rolled a little bit towards the neck pickup for more of a fat P bass sound.I also boost around 350Hz as I find that's a great frequency to boost if you're trying to get the bass to stick out in the mix on small speakers (e.g phone speakers)

I'm an OG bass player that has taken me a lifetime off and on to be able to play like this. I like all these young lion bass players, especially the little boy, for he reminds me of me when I was his age. As a musician, all my life I have modeled myself on the mighty Eddie Jobson, and yes I also play keys along the same lines, as well as compose and arrange music. But my favorite bassist in my age group remains the titanic Jeff Berlin, and here in the modern age, still, nobody comes close to him. Incredible really considering he goes all the way back to the 1970s. As for young men bassists, the one player who I feel comes closest to Jaco Pastorius is Michael Pipoquina from Brazil for he's extraordinary, and to see him as a young teenager playing well is amazing. Y'all keep the bass fires burning into eternity.
