I have been to Winchester once, it was cold as hell, an end of the year Memorial race, perhaps Sammy Sessions and someone else. I wasn't feeling well and probably had the flu. I go to Salem quite often and never felt the need to go back to Winchester. They are about the same as far as track design goes, and run about the same cars, and Salem is 25 miles up the road with some fine twisty roads if you take 160 and the motorcycle. From near Louisville it seems like it takes forever to reach Winchester. I miss these old days, I loved racing, raced stock cars myself, went to as many races as I could get to.

Despain and crew had to be tired that day, considering the previous night they were doing an ESPN "Thunder" show of the NASCAR Busch Series race at IRP.

I had never heard of the track they mentioned in intermission. That was a cool history lesson.

like no tomarrow, the turns are steep if you ever get to go on the track for an autograph session walk up it and try not to fall walking back down I about went end over end and I am used to hills running, those turns are like a bobsled track its got some serious force on those cars for sure.

Arias Pistons brought a V-6 to Ascot, every time it ran, it had a half track lead. It was experimental, with two mags, and had problems with dependability. It was quicker than the V-8 was, and if it was still running when the checker came down, it was the winner.

Thats Pete cozzolino? he was infamous at avilla in north indiana, as he wrecked and his winged car nearly hit the flagman at the time termite bollinger by the way it wrecked in front of him, the black 11 I belive he drove in the sprints on dirt series, it was kind of a running joke that season at least among the fans. would have been 1993 I think when it occured.

I met Robbie Stanley at Manzanita Speedway in the stands, when he attended the race as a fan. I still have that night's program he signed for me.
