Great video! I have the same history. Changing from D500 to the Z6 II. Struggeling a little in the beginning I'm loving it now and do not regret changing the camera.
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Totally agree, I'm able to capture wildlife photos at iso settings that the D500 struggle with and the features that the Z6II has are so good compared to the D500

I appreciate your positive attitude and encouragement so much! I just upgraded to the Z6ii opting on upgrading rather than a costly repair to my D7500. Portraits are beautiful but getting sharp images and focus on motion has me stymied. I will continue to play and learn. Thank you so much. An attitude of gratitude and a willingness to give yourself grace as you learn is the reminder I needed today. Bless you.

I came from the D750 and the z6II is just a piece of art. Nikon gets too little credits, the camera is more than capable.

Correct, to many people complain about the Z6II and that's mainly because so many high profile KZbinrs bag this camera. If you take the time to learn all its features it's a great camera

Perfect analysis. The Z6ii does so many things quite well. Maybe not the best of some things as you mentioned, but the vast capabilities just make it an all-around camera for those of us who shoot a variety of genres. I've only shot a couple hundred photos on my mine, mainly wildlife, but am looking forward to a trip in March to test out street and landscape photography.
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Agree with you 100% and that's why I made this video to show people that the Z6II is a very capable camera

This is refreshing to hear, in the midst of all the "Nikon, announce the Z8 already!" talk from content creators lately. Agreed on all your points about the Z6II - it's honestly the best and most capable camera I've ever owned, in decades of photography. It's a keeper, no matter what body comes along next for me. And I'll say, I'm actually more excited about the Z6III than the Z8 (if recent speculation is even close to correct - I'm not interested in anything over 45 mp). But I do need to add a second body this year - Z9 (that is my current top choice) or Z6III, depending on how this year plays out with Nikon's lineup / release / rebate schedule.
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Y, for me the Z6II is the perfect camera, I wasn't interested in a high megapixal camera as for wildlife and astro that just creates problems. The Z6III does sound like a nice camera, bt Nikon would need to have bird-eye auto focus to make me even want to upgrade to it in the future.
@helgividar Жыл бұрын
I am glad that you are happy with your Z6ii because that is the most important thing about gear that we spend our money on. I am still happy with my D750 and D7500, they are doing well for my use cases and bring me good photos. The Z6ii would probably do that too, but I am waiting to see what the Z6iii will have in store.

Hi Charles, I really enjoy your channel particularly as it is Oz based. Yes a camera purchase is a very personal decision. If I may there was one statement that you made re the Z6ii vs D500 which is not quite correct but a misconception by many (please do not take this as criticism thought). A crop sensor camera does not give you more reach or magnification than a full frame camera. For any given focal length, the same image magnification is thrown on to the sensor plane. It is just that the crop sensor camera is doing an in-camera crop due to its smaller dimensions. For instance if you look at an image from your crop sensor D500 (1.5 crop factor) and an image from your full frame Z6ii shot in crop mode they will be identical or very close to the same. A full frame image can also be cropped in post processing and deliver the same composition and similar image file size (or very close to the same). Keep up the great work on your channel. Cheers Ray

Thank you for your insight and feedback. I am very much aware that A crop sensor camera does not give you more reach or magnification than a full frame camera. This is why I say "Field of View" as that's the difference

I shoot weddings and events and ditched my D500 for the O.G. Z6. I do miss the D500 but not that much.
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
The two things I miss with the D500 is the 10fps and how quick it use to focus. But I'd never go back to it as the Z6II is a much better camera all round.

@@88andreasdc Hi. If you realy mean z60ii: Well, there is no. And I don't use a z6ii becouse I want a cropsensor camera for the extra reach.
@88andreasdc8 ай бұрын
@@BernhardStein-v4b Yes I meant Z6ii of course My D500 AF has some hardware issues therefore I am a bit confused switching to the Z series . It's just seems to me that, the Z6ii has better subject tracking and AF performance compared to z5,z6 and z50 . Have you found difficulties with z50 AF for wildlife? Thanks
@BernhardStein-v4b8 ай бұрын
@@88andreasdc From my point of view it works realy great. I use it with a ftz adapter and a 150-600 Sigma. It is possible to catch a flying kingfischer in front of gras. In this case there is no object tracking or eye-AF. But the z50 finds the "thing" and focus fast enough. Running dogs are also no problem. I think it is good. But I haven't had an z8 or z9 in my handy yet. 😉

Thank you so much for this video. I am considering getting the z6ii and with the exception of video which I don’t shoot, my needs are like yours. I am not a professional so I like to shoot a bit of landscape, astro and now wildlife. So this camera seems like a good choice. For sure having the fancy animal eye AF would be nice, but I have been using a D5500 that has no bells and whistles and I manage. So any camera would be better than what I have now.

Hi there, nice video once again. I currently own a d7500 (walkaeound and wildlife ) and a d810 (for landscape) and contemplating to buy either z7ii or z6ii. One thing that bothers me about going mirrorless is the thought that mirrorless sensor is prone to catching dust more easily than the dslr camera. I have used dslr extensively in all environments and changing lenses on the go without worrying about that. How is been your experience with regards to mirrorless sensor getting dirty frequently??? Secondly what sort of tripod and head do you use? Thanks
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are prone on getting more dust on the sensor and if I have to change lenses in the field I try to do this with the wind at my back or when I'm travelling I carry a very small pillow case and put my camera and lens in there to change the lens. The tripod head that I use is this one. LEOFOTO VH-10S Tripod Head

I agree with you on everything you said in this video. I went from the D780 to the Z6ii. I picked my camera up in December and I had to Practice, Practice, practice! At first I felt that I had made a mistake but now I'm very happy with the camera and the quality of the pictures I'm getting. What is your thoughts on battery life? I'm considering getting a battery grip. I might get the MB - 10 instead of the MB- 11 as I just want the extended time before I have to change out the batteries
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing you thoughts, I have thought about a battery grip. But the extra weight for me isn't worth it, but it would give you much longer shooting time. I just carry a second battery in my backpack or pocket when I'm out. I am though looking at a Anker powerbank for doing astro time lapses in a few months when changing batteries isn't possible,

Why does no one ever talk about burst rate
@CharlesNPhotography Жыл бұрын
Don't know, But I do
@ihatesjws669 Жыл бұрын
@Charles N Photography meant burst rate for photography. Meaning in what situations you get 5.5 frames, continuous high and extended. Bit rate plays a factor in that, jpeg vs raw plays a factor. It would be nice to hear what situations and settings get you what frames per second burst rate.
@lotharmarunga7611 Жыл бұрын
I am disappointed. An autofocus that lacks continuity. Works well sometimes but might as well miss out completely. Thankfully, I still have my old camera. Have taken 8k pictures in 2 months to learn and understand but one day is not the same as the other. But it has its merits, unfortunately lots of features I do not benefit from.

sorry to hear that the Z6II hasn't met your expectations. It took me some time to work out which AF Modes to use in different situations, and now I can capture the photos I want with my Z6II
