Never before seen chapter from our movie "Union Pacific Vintage West" available www.cspmovies.com
Visit 8 states, and see America's original and longest-standing line that helped build the west. Filmed by 14 different people, this material has plenty of the unexpected! Follow UP from the Harriman era to the modern times. See the phase-out of steam and the first and second generation diesels. The focal point is in the 1960 to 1980 period with the onslaught of mergers in the industry. Visit UP's new WP line for a great mix of trains. Featuring: E and F units, Early Geeps, SD24 and U-boats, DD35, DD40, U50, Turbines, Steam and More. This video will bring the viewer a good overview of the Union Pacific's rise to success from the E.H. Harriman days to the UP-MP-WP merger era. Besides the great UP action, we bring their competition into the picture and some of the railroads that nearly made it into the UP camp. See special coverage of the WP 'Inside Gateway' and the Feather River Canyon when the merger was beginning plus UP trackage rights trains on the Santa Fe.

This is just great for anyone who loves trains and locomotives. I’ve always thought when did the engineers and designers come together to produce the modern locomotive look which hit all the marks. I see the DDA40X was it! Whoever the design team was they should definitely be in the engineering/design hall of fame.

The DD40X is my favorite loco even though UP isn't my favorite road. Just look at it. Minimal (if any) computers. I got to stand next to one at IRM and it still is impressive. Hard to believe at some point in the past giants like it and the big blows roamed the Earth. Thanks for sharing full chapters. Do you ever run sales on your webpage? I need to start watching and stock up the next time you have a sale.

@ 5:25... does anyone know why the roots blower was so much more reliable than a regular turbocharger... in later years, a LOT of regular turbo charged equipped engines were rebuilt with the turbocharger REMOVED... man those turbochargers must have been straight junk
@chessieandjack
@chessieandjack Ай бұрын
Turbochargers keep spinning long after the engine is shut down causing excessive wear due to no oil supply. Then the worn bearings leak oil into the system causing fires.

@@chessieandjack thanks for the answer... so are roots blowers used on newer locos... and if not why???

@@25mfdRoots blowers don't work at high altitude. They basically push air. Turbochargers work at all elevations and can compress air increasing what's called volumetric efficiency. I am not really that good at physics or engineering but turbos became the standard because of the altitude thing and also because a blower requires energy from the engine and turbos use heat expansion from the exhaust therefore not creating a parasitic drain on the engine.
