Just a hint from a 82 year old born in Charleston, The longer you cook grits, the better it is. A little butter and cheese makes it even better. Have water on the side to keep adding as it thickens up. Served with a variety of pork, shrimp or even fried catfish, and of course gravy. No sweet grits! That is for northerns, or as we say down here Damn Yankees.

Oh! Yes, the horse-drawn trollies; you get a nice, guided city tour on them. At ride's end I asked the horse's caretaker about that song line "and beer for my horses." Yes! They do like a good beer. (But not before driving.)

You mentioned the summer heat. About that, we learned on the tour trolly that originally the best houses were all built with 2nd-floor sleeping porches/balconies. In summer, you'd sleep there in the nighttime breeze. And they're still there!

Great vid! Makes me think "Charleston is MY town" haha ... I grew up in Mount Pleasant on Shem Creek. My dad actually owned & worked a shrimp boat that he docked on the creek where now it's mostly bars (love hanging out at Reds) and restaurants (the Wreck / it's a dive - great fresh seafood). Next time you're there rent some bikes and ride through the Old Village (parts of "the Notebook" were filmed there) in Mount Pleasant... the old bridge, Alhambra, etc. My mother grew up on Queen Street behind the Cathedral. So here's some enunciation tips!... Think "Chall' stn" slowly but without any real emphasis! Arthur's last name is Rav n ELL (as in thuh bridge).... and yep, it's Poo Gan's (hard G)... Go visit The Citadel next time (my alma mater...) it's a small but beautiful campus. Visit Sullivan's Island and go to the southern most end... Fort Moultrie is there along with a small beach and great view in the late afternoon of the harbor and Charleston beyond... We live in ATL GA but camp mostly at James Island County Park when we return. Oh, and as far a camping in Savannah, Skidaway Island State Park is one of our favorites... then head over to the beach at Tybee Island (park in the police station lot... free and quiet... the beach is yours after only a 2 block walk. ... Oh and one other thing, if you don't already know, the pineapple is known in the South as a sign of hospitality... so hopefully you ran into some of those pineapple peeps! (sorry to ramble!) safe travels. bg

The two cities in "Tale of two Cities" are London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. We had an EXCELLENT experience with Discount Tires as well. When the Covid pandemic first hit, we were headed back home to Portland OR. from Phoenix area. Our tt had a tire issue and we spent the night in Stockton Ca. I couldn't use the spare as the Star wrench I had would not fit inside the trailer wheel cavity to get to the nut. Lesson learned to check that your sockets will work on the trailer wheels and not just the truck. The next morning I made a call and they told me to bring it in. We arrived just after they opened. 20 minutes later the tire was changed. The service guy gave me my keys and said ; "Your good to go". I went inside the office to pay, and they told me, "no charge". Needless to say but its great PR and I've told several people about the experience and may buy my next ties there. The spare was a different wheel but what I would call a "standard " steel vs the fancy aluminum. I now have another wrench for the trailer wheels.

I live in Apex,NC just outside of Raleigh and I've been shopping at Food Lion for 25 years and never once was given a bag for cold/refrigerated items. That's interesting it must be a local thing to the Charleston area. Pretty cool though huhh? (literally Lol) Charleston is pretty cool town and yes it's mild in the winter and brutally hot in the summer but what the person you spoke to chose to or forgot to mention are the hurricanes that occur every year along the Atlantic coast. Starting in June to late November is hurricane season and if you live along the coast everything you worked so hard for can be destroyed and taken from you with one storm.

I found your channel while investigating Battle Born batteries. Thank you for your install videos. As for Charleston, SC maybe you can plan a visit in May. Be sure to include Cypress Gardens Swamp! Very close if you stay in Ladson. There is another KOA in Mount Pleasant. The Charleston Tea Plantation is on Wadmalaw Island, the only tea plantation in the USA. You had your reasons to eat at Poogan's Porch. On another trip try Page's Okra Grill near Shem Creek. So much to see and do in a single visit. FYI the ship that is visible when crossing the Ravenel bridge is the USS Yorktown. It is an aircraft carrier, not a battleship. Safe travels.

My wife and I moved here from NYC last Fall, and I was worried I wouldn't like it, given that I loved NYC. I must say it is a lovely area, (we're outside the city core), and Charleston is not just beautiful, but it's a lively city with good pedestrian traffic and street life, a thriving arts scene, great restaurants, and charm out the wazoo! I couldn't think of a better place to come to after living in NYC. We were actually in the city yesterday, drove in especially for an early dinner at Burwell's Stone Fire Grill. Try it next time you're in town!

Hello Chris and Aaron! This is really awesome! I am so happy that you two landed in Charleston. It is the most must do in the south (in my humble opinion)! Charleston was our go to place when we lived in NC (well, Charleston and the Outer Banks). Oh yes....it does get warm there! I remember when we were in NC, my wife and I did one of our first trips without kids to Charleston. It was a chance to get away before I headed back overseas. Well, it was in July and Charleston was so hot that it was too hot to go to the beach (as in too hot to walk across the sand). In the winter....a different story!! We've even tent camped over Christmas there. You are so right....so much to see out there! We are going to head down to Mexico in early September. Honestly, this is an exploratory trip to consider spending a good chunk of the year in the future....or maybe half the year...or whatever feels right. Safe travels!

So great to have a good tire place! I use America's Tire in Santa Rosa, CA, and they never let me down, always ready to match any online tire deal and they always have my tires for my pickup, and not just regular old tires... Love them. Glad that was an easy fix for ya! Aaron, you really need to clean that lens more often...! "When are you gonna quit"??? WHY would you quit? As long as you have cash and can go, GO! When you finally decide to 'settle', then you'll have a very good idea of where to do that. And you can still travel. What a great life. LOVE watching your vids and traveling vicariously through them. Aaron... clean the lens!

Since I saw you install the Victron 3000 in the Airstream van, I have been following. I really like the electrical system that you installed in the truck. That is on my to do list, for my F150, especially now that I have a Harker EDC ordered and would love to carry my Engel cooler all the time... as well as, permanently mounting the solar equipped EDC. I had forgotten that you all went with the Anderson hitch. The Anderson has a bit of unwanted motion compared to the old (now overloaded Hensley),but I am happy with it and have peace of mind that we are not overloaded. We also like Savannah - Charleston is more like a good wine and Savannah more like the best sweet tea you have ever had.

I've shopped Food Lion for over 50 years. In the early days it was a good store. The founders were focused on growing the store. Now it is owned by a European Corporation and has been renamed "Shitty Kitty". Enjoy Charleston-my grandparents lived there so summer vacations were fun.

What of my favorite videos (on your other channel) you did this year is when you interviewed Captain Mark, the owner of the fish market. And where Chris talked about healthy meals that could be cooked with the fresh fish. Please do more of those seafood or farmers markets. Also, I'm glad you have no plan to stop RVing in the foreseeable future.

What? Wait. Not Minnesota and severe wind-chill? I want to go back there and explore. I was there in 83 for a national tennis tournament so didn't get to see the town. We were right on the beach so can't complain. Saw dolphins swimming by and a dog jumped in and chased them. He went a long way. I thought that dog was dead for sure but he made it back. He just collapsed on the beach for about ten minutes. My vote goes for the biscuits and gravy.
