Isn't that the TRUTH? ;^> I watch videos like this all the time, and my brain actually starts to _absorb_ the various drives, and I recall them almost like my own memory. I experience the Google street-view shots and 3D cityscaping much the same way: even if I travel the actual paths myself, I recall the "virtual" travels with equal accuracy. SOOOO cool!!!

Everything about Charleston has gone down hill in the last 7-8 years . Quality of life, traffic, housing cost, cost of food, flooding, losing its charm due to the amount of people moving here combined the rate they’re showing up. Drinking water quality is very very poor. Harbor water quality is getting worse due to Constant sewage spill from an overwhelmed system. Enormous loss of trees and green space just to make room for over priced apartments and hotels. The list goes on and on.

I spent most of my life in the Charleston suburbs. Summerville, and North Charleston to be exact. I was born in N. Charleston my parents are from Ohio. My dad joined the Navy, and his first assignment was here. We moved every couple of years, but always found ourselves back in Charleston. I love it here, but with decades of uncontrolled growth it is a nightmare to get anywhere around here. I wish people will stop moving here we are full, and that is no joke.

I lived in charleston for 21 years, and still have family there. It’s a beautiful historic place! But to be fair, IT DOES HAVE GHETTOS ALSO, JUST LIKE MANY OTHER CITIES. North Charleston, Johns island, WEST ASHLEY , WHERE I LIVED , ALL HAVE GHETTOS. Downtown Charleston has slowly been gentrified, just like many other places in this country. And just like anywhere it has good and bad. Still a beautiful city though!!! Excellent video!!!

@andrewhigdon8346

Wait, what about the peninsula itself? Ghettos? If you think that what is in Charleston, even the roughest parts of the tri county area aren’t THAT bad. Ghetto? Where are you from when you say something like that? Arizona? West Ashley? Ghetto? Good god man. The very worst parts of West Ashley are not like instant danger, as the real ghettos are in major cities. Get a grip. Your comment reeks of superficial observation. Sorry. Seriously. I apologize for the abrasive nature of my comment, but that pales in how offensive yours was. Bubble much?

@@samanthalinen4058 @Ponderosa2016 Samantha, I totally agree. I live on Johns (near Angel Oak) and it's a less commercialized James Island, and an upgrade from West Trashly- I saw that jokingly because Ashley is not as bad as it used to be. That Poderosa2016 person sounds like some Mt. Pleasant / Isle of Palms elitist.

You know, people have a right to live where they want. I live in Charleston half the year for work, and I believe I add to the community rather than take from it. I volunteer, I take an interest in local issues, I don't hurt anyone and I spend my money locally. Being from Seattle, I totally understand why you don't want Charleston to grow too big too fast, but not every outsider is a bad person, and not every native Charlestonian is virtuous. I'm saying this with love, but get over yourselves.

This is a pretty well done short tour of my home city. Yes, parts are not so good. True, the secrets out and everyone else is moving here. 99% of all cities probably have bad areas, but there are tons of great to go with the not so greats. The people are awesome here, the food is amazing and the views of the harbor never get old. There's history in every direction and getting out into the country is only a short drive. Next time you make it here, hit me up, I'll get you out on the water for Chapter 2! Ya'll come back, now!

I have family in Charleston so it's nice to see this side even if my family and I never get to live here. I know my ancestors roamed these streets and played a huge part of its existence today. As in most nicer areas my family do not take time to frequent these area as they feel unwelcome but each time I visit, I make sure to roam the area where my ancestors were brought, sold and worked. Thank you for a closer glimpse.

andydguitar what the hell does any political leaning have to do with this horrifically uninformed video? For your information, and in spite of its history, Charleston is the most liberal city in South Carolina, and while that’s not saying much, it’s better than nothing. I mean, I guess I could live where you do now. Oh, the horror.

Our daughter is studying there for a year, so we were lucky to have been able to spend both Thanksgiving and Christmas there. While it was very lovely being there at that time of year, It felt a little strange sitting outside having croissants and coffee at the end of December!

Hot as Hades in the summer months with all the 90 degree water around it. Prefer the cooler temps way up north in Wilmington and Raleigh :). I visit Chucktown 1-2 times a year when I need some Lowcountry food and to trip over cobblestones.

I love living here! I moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma and it's like living in a movie everyday, it's almost always beautiful and the people are usually very nice. A bit more expensive than we are used to but just as long you aren't living in Charleston proper you probably aren't going to pay any more than living most other cities.

LeoNation89, why wouldn't you want to move there? I'm close to getting out of California and Charleston is on my short list of places to move. And no, I will NOT be wanting where I move to become California. I'm leaving it to leave it, so don't worry folks.

This is the same tour that I was given when I got suckered into accepting a job here 14 years ago. Biggest mistake of my life. The "southern charm" here is just a face mask covering the ugliness of the people here. So much arrogance and entitlement. The infrastructure can't handle the growth. All those million dollar homes get flooded out regularly by king tides and storm surges. Tourism makes it unbearable for the locals. I could go on for days. Yes, it is extremely beautiful and full of history, but I wouldn't recommend living here.

I love Chucktown. I have family there and visit often. Gets really hot in summer and downtown has a constant smell of urine. I highly recommend a visit to one of the local plantations and also make sure you go see Angel Oak. A tree that will blow your mind.

I went to Charleston once on Christmas and couldn’t believe it got so cold there, ditto Savannah the next day. Stayed at the John Rutledge House Inn which I highly recommend. The Downtown area is a nice place to walk with drop dead gorgeous architecture and we actually found a great Thai restaurant that was open Christmas night. The National Park Service does its usual bang-up job at the visitor center connected to Fort Sumter. Even JFK would rendezvous with a pre-Jackie girlfriend (who was suspected of being a spy) at the Fort Sumter Hotel on King Street. Speaking of which, great name for a street. Right up there with King William, Virginia (where I stopped on the way back from Charleston/Savannah). Whew! A lot of driving in my (then) brand new BMW.
