In my day brought up in country the local Sergeant would visit on his bicycle, we were taught to respect authority. The school teachers were all senior males, had the leather around their sports jacket cuffs and leather elbow patches, kept their belt under their jacket on the shoulder. We were taught manners and etiquette which I still use today. Maybe respect has been lost a bit!
