Good honest review, I’ve had one for nearly two years now with most of the extras. It’s a great all round bike, used it to potter around, off road, camping touring trips and even the TT. I would recommend Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres for the off on road combo they work really well. If you plan to ride somewhere warm/hot get the brushed Ally panniers not black as they cook whatever’s inside. Also recommend aftermarket bar end weights they take a tad of the vibration away at speeds. Also fitted a dual waterproof handlebar USB charging socket, very handy 🏍💨

Legend. Trumpet review of a bike I’ve been considering by Charlie? I’ll have some of that. Subbed👍 I had the 1200 Explorer. Loved it as a heavyweight tourer but way way too top heavy so sold out to bmw. Then saw sense, changed the gsa for an RS and bought a Vstrom650 for green laning and don’t have to worry about dropping it. 900 tiger is the first Triumph to tempt me back to a trumpet in years. Your cahonies haven’t shrunk any, given the pace you were setting off road on wet leaves! You and Mr M met my wife in Prague around about the time the LWR series was filmed, at a beemer photoshoot. She and a girl friend she was with got you in a photo with them which she’s very proud of, which spurred her on to do her bike test👍. Keep safe, great to see that your enthusiasm for bikes hasn’t wained any😁

Charley! I have been waiting forever to see your thoughts on the Tiger! Watching The Long Way series is what made me want to and decide get one of these (2020 Tiger Rally Pro 900)and I am so thrilled with it! I rewatch the Long Way series every winter while I can't ride and I often have wanted to know your thoughts on these bikes and even if you would have preferred them over the BMWs in the first two trips. So I have to ask: If you you were going to have to (or get to!) do it all again tomorrow... Which would you decide to go on? The Tiger Rally Pro or BMW? Thanks for all you have done to support the spot and thanks for just being you!

Everyone makes nice reviews about this bike and rightly so, I own one. Nobody talks about two problems. One is the heat management, the exhaust vents dump the hot air right on your thighs, not a problem for the UK but really not that pleasant here in Texas. The other issue is why in the world Triumph sells this bike with street tires? KTM, Husqvarna, BMW provides more off road choices for tires....I love my T900 Rally Pro and I think I will keep it for a long time.
@Charley.Boorman Жыл бұрын
Yes, the heat on the thighs that often happens with bikes. Only notice when it’s hot. Tires I suppose you can request different ones when you buy the bike. As you say should come with them on the rally pro.

Plenty of bike for most people. In Australia we’d fit more off road biased tyres. I had nobbies on my 82 Tiger Trail 750. It had tall gearing and pulled like a train anywhere,sometimes two up. I’d keep the top box, leave the panniers in the garage for longer trips.

great review! I would tell anyone that is looking to buy one or own one to steer clear of the upper crash bar. The design is really BAD. Countless owner damaged their gas tank because the bar bends into it on the smallest drop. They also attach to the sub-fame mount under the beak and will destroy the aluminium sub-fame really easily. I love my T900 Rally Pro You crazy daredevil going that fast in muddy trail with the stock tires. I almost had a heart attack watching you.

Thanks for doing this review Charlie, I have owned this bike (khaki the best colour 😜) since July last year, it's the first time owning & riding an adventure bike, I must say I'm loving every moment of it, however I wonder if Triumph have addressed the squeak problem, have you experienced that yet?, I don't think you have the bike long enough for it to happen but I'm pretty sure it will come eventually, it's not a mechanical problem but It does get a bit irritating, only thing I need to do now is ride as good as you 😜

I really liked this bike having ridden one in the US last August. Most of that riding was gentle back roads in Massachusetts and at modest speeds dictated by their enforced limits. I was taken by it’s relatively low weight, very tractable engine and planted feel. I tried one back home in the UK and was very aware of the buzzy engine and, for me, intrusive vibration after just an hour. The GSA 1200 I sold for an Africa Twin was smoother as is the KTM 890 Adventure I now have. The Africa Twin somewhere in between. I think that Triumph made a bad move in destroying the very essence of a triple, it’s inherent smoothness. This is dressed up as offering better low down torque but that’s purely a function of compression ratio, cam timing and fuelling. Fashion over function. Sad because this would have been the ideal bike for me.
@ranjitchougale2142 Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. Vibrations were the deal-breaker for me as well.

If you are not going seriously offroad, leave the stock ones on. On a surface that is hard, they are ok. If you want go offroad more or plan to go more seriously offroad, there are milions of pages about best "adventure tires" for your specific usage. After finding out, what my bike is capable of after switching from 90/10 tires to 50/50 tires, I reevaluated all the talks on the internet. There are offroad tires and onroad tires.
@marcusgeorge1825 Жыл бұрын
@@cloudjumper8868 Thanks. Greatly appreciated. I’m fortunate enough to have several bikes today and have lost count of how many over the last 40+ years. From a racetrack only bike, street and also a pure dirt only bike just to name three. Just trying to decide on if I get another Sport Tourer or a dual purpose which is a class I’ve never been into before as they are kind of a “master of no categories”. So I tend to agree with you on the 90/10.😊
@cloudjumper8868 Жыл бұрын
@@marcusgeorge1825 I bought my adventure bike (KTM 890 ADV) because I often ride in "offroady" conditions. Not usually seriously "offroady" but offroad enough to do serious problems to tourer/naked etc. bikes. But I did not buy 890 ADV R, because I dont need its extra offroad abilities for my riding. Au contraire, I spend most of time on road with some minor offroad passages. If my recomendation has any value to you, I can say that AVON Trailrider tires (90/10 or even 95/5) are very, very good on road, stick like hell, never ever had I any issue with them under any conditions (on road). I tried Continental Trail Attack 3 tires, which are also 90/10 (95/5) tires, which are basicaly the same tire from other company. Continentals are impressive with their low heating time. 2-3 kilometres with slight braking/waving and they are warm and ready. I really like them. I tried Michelin Anakee Adventure (80/20? 70/30? tire) on BMW 1150 GS and I was very surpised, how fine a tire it is and it even behaved offroad better then I expected (with 250 kg bike + me in mud - I was actually impresed). Latest tire I tried is Metzeler Karoo 4 (50/50 or maybe even 40/60 offroad tire). I was surprised how nicely it behaves onroad (when you dont forget that it is 50/50 tire) and offroad performance is levels above anything I aforementioned. I am able to scrape pegs with Karoo 4 (and with my butt clenched) anyway. Karoo 4 tests are on my channel, if you would be interested to check them. But these are not onroad tires. Only thing I would say considering any adventure tires - stay away from Bridgestone. I dont know why, but everyone around me had a problem with anything that connected words "adventure", "tire" and "Bridgestone" in one sentence. Have fun!

I remember last year when the salesman at the Triumph dealership close to me being a complete arsehole to me for turning up on my ‘09 GS. (How dare me ) . All I asked for was a good look at the Rally Pro and a test ride to decide wether it was a good idea to switch or not. All I got was his ranting about my size ( 5”7 and so was he ) and the time he was obviously wasting on me. Turns out I’m still a happy BMW owner and my bike is about to turn 100.000km old some time in the spring. I’m glad to have kept my bike although she doesn’t have microwave technology or else.

Any known issues with this bike? I have the tiger 800 2012 and is an absolute nightmare, issues with the stepper motor, starter engine, a spring broken in the gear box and many other issues that I hope are corrected in this model.
@MasterYoda2102 Жыл бұрын
Hi scorpio, I had the same question last year. There were some things with the first models a few years ago but the last two generations have no general / recurring defects. It has the best qucikshifter I have ever driven. However, it depends on the bike from which you switch and what your area of use is. There are people who complain about vibrations (changed firing order to the previous model). I come from a 700cc single cylinder Husky, so I can not understand the whining. There are so many 4 and 6 cylinder tourer bikes that are smooth. Off-road capable bikes may also have some character in my eyes. The vibrations are really not bad and if you stick to the rev limitations for the first 1000km they even decrease (worked for me, and the bike from the dealership i have testridden had no noticeable vibrations)
