Today I’m reacting to highlights from one of Charlie Chaplin’s greatest films, the great dictator released in 1940 during world war 2 and as well, the historic speech he made at the end that captivated audiences. His contribution in the film has inspired to world and to remind us "To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!" 😊

The constructed language Esperanto was devised in the late 1800s as a 'universal second language', in the hopes of bridging the gaps between the different peoples of the world by giving them a means of communication. Chaplin honored this language in The Great Dictator: all the business signs in the ghetto are actually in Esperanto. Of course, the speech at the end expresses much the same hope that characterizes the Esperanto movement.

...and then 13 years after this film, the USA expelled him for being a communist. He died almost in oblivion in Europe in Switzerland.🤔

That is the way of the world. Heroism is eventually dismissed, and our heroes tossed aside.Turing saved the lives of millions during WW2 and ushered in the modern computer age. But after the war was tortured and died at the hands of his own people.

Chaplin could only be Chaplin during the Silent Era. His physical comedy can best be expressed in silent movies. Mr. Bean comes close to Chaplinesque, but it still pales to the skill of Chaplin.
