I love Charlie's video of his home setup shows how he ties on the most basic Dyna-King. Amazing how its not the tool but the tyer! Quality stuff!!

I had one of the first Barracuda vises and tied on it for years, thousands upon thousands of flies. Went through a few jaws in that time, they seemed to wear rather quickly. Was looking for a new vise 3-4 years ago with an adjustable arm and ended up with the Renzetti master, couldn’t be more pleased with it. Like it much better for trout flies, my big fly predator vise has been a Regal revolution. For a big hook holding power I really like the Regal. If they had the new revised vises out at that time I probably would have gone with another Dyna-King, but after having the Renzetti the jaw adjustment on it seems a little easier to me.

Looking forward to getting a closer view of the new jaws and vises.

I’ve had a Voyager for over 25 years and the Ultimate Indexer for the last couple and the UI is the best vise for gluing and epoxy work. People who don’t like the jaws ain’t using it correctly.

Thanks Charlie - great video. Any first hand experience with the Excalibur regarding movement by the two screws while tying? Thinking saltwater flies where might be putting pressure with the thread. Will the Excalibur's screws lock in? Or perhaps the Barracuda is the preferred way to go? Thanks.

HA i was like "hmmm I could use a new vise, maybe I'll spend a few hundred$$." Nope. $700 for the Barracuda. That's not happening. Guess I'll stick with my Peak Vise. Hasn't failed me yet

Great review Charlie. That said, let Dyna know the pricing is ridiculous on these vices... very nice features but seems they could be sold at half the price and both the dealers as well as the manufacturerstill be profitable. Look at Peak & Anvil... similar features and made in the US at 25% of the price of the Barracuda. Maybe not quite the features available on the higher level vises like the indexer, etc but I am resistant to being what I feel is gouged on price to get those seldom used features. Would be happy to pay a slightly higher price but not 2-3x.

@@flytimeangling3008 there’s quite a bit of quality difference between the vises you’ve mentioned here. Peak and Anvil, while both fine vises, are not nearly as machining-intensive as the DK’s. Until you see one of these new vises in person, it’s really hard to understand the quality improvements.

That's fair. Being that I worked for Snap-on over 12 years and now for Hilti almost a decade (both known in their markets as premium, top of the line products of the highest quality engineering & precision). Therefore, I know and believe in the value proposition of superior built products along with the frustration of poor performing ones. I also understand that integrating quality in any product induces additional production cost. That said, still reluctant to fork over this kinda dough unless, as you say the quality is really there which warrants it. I'll be checking them out as soon as possible...unfortunately not in Colorado or I'd come by your store. Keep up the great work and thx for your reply!

Are the new jaws compatible with the California made models?

Very nice vises, but why so much money? They hold hooks. My Traveler vise was $150.00 and that was a lot. To each there own I guess!

Sorry can’t watch. My first good vice was that vice over 20 years ago. When I moved to Georgia from Florida some how a couple of moving boxes didn’t make it and one was one of my packed fly tying beach boxes and in it was this vice. I can’t tell you how many snook, redfish and tarpon flies I ties on that vice. Now I use a Rizzetti vise for trout. Not that good for saltwater.

Charlie is promoting rotary vises? He has succumbed to the dark side! 😎😎😎
