Reddit has answered our question! Since the golden fiddle is unlikely to be solid gold (it wouldn't be very functional if it was), and is hollow, the weight of a golden fiddle has been calculated to be roughly 30-40lbs depending on construction. - Keith

Hartford county fair, PA , back in the 90s. Charlie Daniels' bus pulled up in front of the bleachers. Out jumps Charlie, and he went right into a song. six or seven songs later, he says "Thank you all. Been great to be here..."He then turned around, and got on the bus that never left. He thought he was gonna get outa there, without playing Devil Went Down to Georgia! Crowd went nuts chanting "Devil Went Down to Georgia" It worked. He got off the bus, and proceeded to play the FASTEST version i have ever heard. Whole song in like 90 seconds. Was awesome.

The start of mountain music playing a violin as a "fiddle" as it is called across multiple genres that were born of mountain music around the 1850's, I think, here in the US. The violen/fiddle was brought from Europe by immigrants so it is very multi genre.

It’s been pointed out to me in the past that when you compare the devil’s verse and Johnny’s, the devil is relying so heavily on the band where Johnny’s could stand on it’s own if all you could hear was the fiddle rather than any of the drums, guitar, keyboard, or bass. Meaning without the backing band, Johnny still won from a technical stand point. They did a tribute to this song at the CMAs in 2020, because Charlie Daniels passed away that year, and the man playing the fiddle broke his bow in the middle of this song, because he was playing so hard, and he just kept going.

When I was a teenager, I was 19 when this song was released in 1979, the Charlie Daniels Band was NOT played on the Country music stations, at least here in the St. Louis area. Herer, the CDB was played on KSHE FM 94.6, St. Louis' legendary Rock station. Devil Went Down to Georgia was the hit that broke CDB to the mainstream Country fans. Charlie Daniels Band was, at least for myself, one of the pioneering Southern Rock artists along with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshll Tucker Band and many more. Last time heard The Devil Went Down to Georgia on KSHE, it was preceeded by the Beatles, and followed by Black Sabbath.

I remember locking eyes with Charlie as I was being dragged out by my Brother. Who knew a few years later I'd have a boyfriend who played steel guitar for the Bellamy Brothers and be on tour with CDB. Became dear friend with Taz DiGregorio who was one of a kind on those keys. Also from my home state of Massachusetts, and other guys in the band. Charlie remembered that incident and we laughed over it. Rest in Peace Charlie and my dear buddy Taz.

I think you would appreciate a band called Asleep at the Wheel. Originally from West Virginia back in the 70's, they are now based in Texas and play a mix of blues and Western Swing, reminiscent of Bob Wills and The Playboys. True OG. Hot Rod Lincoln is awesome, but Red Wing has a lot of guest musicians, like Vince Gill and Chet Atkins, and I think Johnny Gimble. Asleep at the Wheel does a lot of joint songs. Sugarfoot Rag with Brad Paisley is a good one, too.

Have you ever listened to Home Free? Sounds like they have instruments but all sound are made with their voices. If you haven't a great one to start with is Man of constant sorrow Then listen to the Butts medley as it show more of what they do.

Charlie had a custom 8 string fiddle for the studio version

That'd be roughly equivalent to Steve Vai building a 10 string guitar. I'm not good enough at either instrument to need that expanded note range. - Keith

Fun fact: After Charlie became a Christian, he changed the words to this song slightly. Instead of "I done told you once, you son of a b***h", he started singing "I done told you once, you son of a gun". BTW, The Adrenaline Mob did a cover of this song but with guitars instead of fiddles.

IIRC, it was that one line that kept the song off the radio. - Keith

There is an interview with the producer John Boylan that explains that radio line. He and Charlie agreed to record the "clean" version during the original recording sessions for the singles release in 1979, because many stations would probably not play the other version. The SOB was left on the album.

Great Reaction Video...... Hmmmmm....... Wouldn't the Golden Fiddle be hollow like a real one, in order to produce sound??..... Therefore weigh a managble amount...... Thoughts would be, that it weigh more than regular fiddle, but not need a forklift........

Also I have requested Does He Love You? By Reba Mc Entire and Kelly Clarkson over and over and have yet to even get a reply from either of you. I understand that you have many request and can't reply to them all, but after the 100th or more times requesting this I hope to get at least a reply. I know you are both Reba and Kelly fans. Thanks! Do the live version at the CMA, I think is the right one to see the chemistry and interaction between the two of them.
