A direct democracy & a republic are not the same things. Democracy is from the Greeks & Republic is from the Romans. Democracy means rule of the people. Republic public good or affair. Our democratic system is a union of different states that have different rights that must be respected & protected. Each state in our national republic elects representatives by very specific rules to provide national stability to prevent mob fervor from too quickly imposing its insanity upon all states. The reason that we can have differences in the popular vote vs the republic representative vote is that in most cases, wiser people are elected to represent lots of dimwits & for the dimwits to get their way, they have to spend more than a drunken stupor amount of time in a voting booth to replace such wise people vs impulsively imposing their idiocy on everyone else, if/when the population of the idiots exceed that of normal & better people in a population. The most solid defense of a constitutional republic instead of a pure democracy, where some votes could be perceived as more valuable than others, is that its regional representation. There is no way the average citizen in NYC can fully relate and know the interests of the average citizen in Boise, and vice versa. The Electoral College was designed when the entire population of these United States were equal to a single State's population now.. *We absolutely need a **_State level_** electoral college, so each COUNTY has equal say in the overall state electoral vote! This would prevent city centers from overpowering every single county in the state!* *We aren't a democracy.. We are a Republic with FEATURES of democracy.* Massive difference 💯 Also, each State is supposed to be like "it's own country".. The Civil War (war of northern aggression, as some called it) fought to obliterate State Power and install the Federal Govt as a "central government" with all the power over the States. 😔

@@pobregringo88 If we expanded the electoral college this way, then the population 10x, we could expand it to regions inside a county. It's just like a "zooming in", or applying the method to a smaller area, due to a larger amount of people needing balancing. I can't believe no one has proposed this, yet. *As it is, one or two cities in a state completely obliterate the votes of most counties in a state. The entire state has to be red to balance out the blue votes from a city.*

And what does a Constitutional Republic mean...? It means that the Constitution is a CONTRACT between consenting citizens, not a "living, breathing document" (whatever the hell THAT means.) It means that rights cannot be taken by a 50% + 1 vote.

Do we actually select our politicians, or does the political party provide us with limited options to choose from based on their selection of candidates? The main problem with the US is that in the past electing someone to office generally brought about a liberal or conservative vote from that person, but now you never know what you are going to get because the actual agenda of that person might be totally different from what their platform says it is so electing a conservative might actually be voting in a liberal. The real problem is that these people can retain office for decades because the people voting them in are too stupid to ever see what they are actually voting for.
