I’ve looked into this conflict a lot from both sides and from multiple sources and the uncomfortable thing that very few people actually talk about is the fact that Hamas was voted in democratically and I have yet to hear Palestinians in the US come out and genuinely denounce Hamas. They always seem to change the subject and make it about what Israel is doing. The reality is…around 70% give or take of Palestinians voted for this. The question then becomes why?? And what nobody mentions is that this is not actually a Hamas problem believe it or not…it’s not an Israel problem. I hate to say it…in the same way that you have ignorant leftists voting for people and policies that are destructive, you have ignorant Palestinians who vote for Hamas and then are too stupid to recognize that the problems they face are a direct result of the very people and policies they voted for. This is why the “useful idiots”on college campuses as I call them are so Pro-Palestine and act in a very similar fashion to terrorists in many ways. My grandfather was pro Castro/Bautista at the beginning. There were only a few people in my family who were at the time…however, by the time complete totalitarianism had been established and there was no hope of supplanting the regime, it was too late even though my grandfather realized his mistake later. I loved my grandfather may he rest in peace. But, similarly to the Palestinians, he was guilty to the extent that he supported a corrupt evil regime. Does that mean he was evil? No, he was just foolish and unwise and misinformed. Hindsight is 20/20. The same thing is going on in this conflict except Palestinians don’t want to own up to their own bad decisions and now it’s too late bc Hamas controls them completely

Something no one ever mentions is the fact that when Israeli left Gaza in 2005. In January 2006 the people of Gaza elected Hamas to the governing body with a majority Hamas needed 67 seats to win the election they got 74 and Fatah the current ruling party got 45 there are 132 seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council. There have not been any elections since. All of this information is available on a multitude of sites and if you don’t mind the unreliability of Wikipedia you can take a short cut and look there. Though I would advise clarifying sources. Best place to get information is from peer reviewed published papers.

I would feel more support for the Palestinians if the people they elected to govern them were actually there protecting them. If the government they had was actually helping them live a better life. Instead, when I see images of Gaza before Israel attacked, it looked worse than Afghanistan. Where did all the aid money go? Now, as the land they are supposed to be protecting it destroyed in a retaliatory strike that THEY instigated, where is Hamas? Qatar... sipping champagne in one of the richest Arab countries in the world... Why should Palestine be supported like this when, in a way, they did this to themselves?
