His retro 50’s psych style beats the Cure/New Order style music of his later years. I will always love his music. He was a shadow ghost roaming the planet and seemed to defy all conventions regarding music. Why he was ready to check out early is hard to understand, but I guess indie rock has to be an exhausting slog- playing for the hipster margins, and living on love not money, but he did well.
