The United States owes New York City especially those that are cultured in the ways of jazz which has been recognized throughout Europe it is a great accomplishment that we produced a culture in New York City that was smart enough and Kansas City to record this group these gentlemen were interdimensional they they were in The 5th dimension they were ahead of others Charlie Parker to me equivocates roughly with people like Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven.

I remember those days where our only possibillity was a Phillips steal recorder, that sometimes had his own ideas. When I to day listen to our own recordings from this time in f.x. Eastpark Jazzclub it sounds exactly like this, but in my head I am able to hear whats realy happened.
@mgconlan3 жыл бұрын
@@olebirgerpedersen Actually it's not a Dean Benedetti recording. Dean recorded a lot of live Parker but he usually only recorded the theme statements and Bird's solos because his interest was because he was learning alto sax and he wanted to play Parker's music. Also Benedetti never used a wire recorder (he went straight from a disc recorder to a tape recorder). These recordings aren't in the complete Mosaic Records boxed set of the Benedetti recordings and I'd never heard of them before. Given how troubled Parker's life was in 1946 (just before his nervous breakdown and confinement at Camarillo State Mental Hospital) it's amazing how good he is here.

Bird the greatest musician of all time. I firmly believe one can't compose the stuff he plays- so much humanity in the details, the lilting dancing rhythm, the doleful descending melodies drenched in blues, the introspective, sometimes brooding harmonies. There will never be another bird

Yung Meezy One can tell that your post is truly heartfelt. I was 3 years old when Bird died. I had heard about his music off and on throughout my life until I ran across a cd in 1990 or thereabouts. It was a hits collection from the Savoy years. His alto mesmerized me first. Then it was the drumming of Max Roach. What heady times.

A couple of quibbles with the listings of previous commenters (1) Numbers 11 and 12 were March 24, 1952, not March 25. Bird did a studio date on March 25. (2) On number 14 Milt Jackson is obviously present on vibes. Bird did two gigs that day--the Waldorf Astoria with the personnel shown by the previous commenters, but also the Royal Roost with Bags added. The authoritative Bird discography by Peter Losin shows the Waldorf Astoria "Anthropology" running 2:23 as it does here, but without Bags. He shows the "Anthropology" from the Royal Roost that day as running 5:01. So something doesn't add up. I will try to get in touch with Peter about this.

Listening to this again - the rhythm sections all seem to have at least one very obvious weak link, and when it's not the drums, or Nat Cole, it's Al Haig (what's wrong, why is he so often "lost"?)
