"Fall From Grace" is an investigation of the Buffalo Catholic Diocese by 7 Eyewitness News I-Team Chief Investigator Charlie Specht.
Damning documents from a church whistleblower formed the basis of a three-part series on Bishop Richard J. Malone, which proved Malone returned an accused child abuser to ministry and recommended he work with children; allowed another accused priest to remain pastor of a wealthy parish; and deceived the faithful by hiding the "real" abuse list -- containing more than 100 priests -- from the public.
It was likely the largest breach of documents from the "secret archives" in the history of the American church -- and as a direct result of our reporting:
-- The State Legislature in January 2019 passed the Child Victims Act, which reformed New York’s archaic sexual abuse laws and expanded the statutes of limitation on child sex crimes.
-- The State Attorney General has launched a statewide investigation into clergy sex abuse.
-- The Federal Bureau of Investigation has launched a criminal investigation of the Buffalo Diocese and the U.S. Attorney is building a racketeering case against church leaders.
-- In December 2020, Bishop Malone became the first bishop in the 172-year history of the Diocese of Buffalo to resign.

If my child was sexually abused by say ... a hockey coach, I don't think I would go to the hockey organization and say "One of your coaches abused my child, please help us." and let it end there. Of course I would inform the organization, but that would be shortly after returning from the police and possibly the hospital after my child had given their statement and had evidence collected. Why these parents of abused children and adults who had suffered abuse in the past would go to the diocese and not the police is beyond me. I live in Canada, we have no Statute of Limitations. If you commit a crime, you're liable for it until the day you die, then it's God's turn.

You need to be able to separate the Old testament from the New testament, Christians use the New testament but the Catholic church until the sixties, had a philosophy for parishioners at least that you didn't have the right to personally read and interpret the New testament as a text to live your life by. I don't know how much more priests in seminary are taught about what's in the text or treated like parishioners in this way, where the practice is more about memorizing words not getting into what the words actually mean to tie them together structurally speaking, as a practice to live life by as you encounter people, places, things and situations. it's largely been with Catholicism that it's a ceremonial "practice" of showing -up at specified times, not so much as a guide through Christianity principally, to live by. you don't have to be a "Catholic" to be a Christian.

And the bishops, archbishops, cardinals, and even the popes who knowingly suppressed, hid, or denied the highly credible evidence of their crimes are equally culpable for the continued suffering of their victims. There's no reason for you to take action, though I was molested my whole childhood, but you need to understand your one person, what are you going to do? There are so many men and women who molest children and yes, priest, go into Priesthood and into a church just to molest, it's an easy way for them to be around small children, and that's why they do it. A lot of people just don't realise that for some reason, but this happens in every religious sector. It's not like you can kill every molester because most people have no idea when a person is a molester, and I also want to say, if this is it, which I don't think it's the end of times right now so far, my molesters haven't paid and I'm almost 50 years old now. There's literally nothing you can do as one person. You can't stop it you can help fight the cause but there's just to many of them and you wouldn't believe who some of these people are..

In fact, there are limited circumstances in which married men can be ordained to the priesthood in the Western part of the church even now. Why not just drop this harmful policy altogether??
