It's a very sad day, in this video, we pay tribute to #therollingstones drummer Charlie Watts 1941-2021, who passed away today.
On this sad day, I cut together some rare Charlie interviews, footage, news broadcasts and isolated drum tracks of Charlie. This footage was made with love on the day Charlie passed, while I was listening to #therollingstones records and watching the footage, mourning the loss of one of the greats. I hope this gives my students on this channel and any other fans some inspiration to go out and check out #therollingstones if you haven’t already.
RIP Charlie Watts. Your music will live on forever and you will always be such a big part of my musical journey.

Imagine being the rock, behind the Stones for over 60 yrs,and remaining totally grounded,no ego,and a wonderful person. This man is a rare beautiful commodity…we shall probably not see his like again

Watts was a completely centered man. By that I mean he did not seek attention and approval like most other people. He was not needy for the spotlight. He approved of himself, which everyone should learn to do. Learn from him. If you believe in yourself, you don’t need to draw attention away from everyone else. Charlie was purely solid and content within himself while knowing who he was. We should all follow his example. Mr. Watts, I salute you.

He said once in an interview that he wished he had formal lessons when he was younger. He also noted that he simply imitated other great drummers. Whatever he did, the man worked at his craft his entire life and was always humble. God Bless him and his infinite patience working with The Glimmer Egos.

He was my mentor for drums. I learned timing and how to do his one off the hi hat to make the music swing. And it does. People ask me when I sit in bands how I play like I do. Really you don't realize you are playing drums with one off the hi hat. People musicians do take notice. I learned a lot by listening and watching Charlie in the videos especially Start Me Up, as well as concert DVD's. I really learned a lot from Charlie. So glad I was able to do so. I have been playing drums 40+ years now. In and out of bands now semi retired from the drums but do play when asked to sit in and play a few songs. Keeps my chops up. Thank you Charliie. May you rest in peace. Miss you lots.

All these guys that don’t seem like flash drummers. They’re musicians drummers, that’s the key I think. Playing for the song, not themselves. That’s why the musos love them so much. Add to that Charlie Watts character and humility. Magic combo.

Everyone talks about my old neighbour Charlie brilliant drumming skills and what a very fine gentleman man he was, all is completely true but nobody talks about Charlies very small drum kit that he played all during his life, Charlie once told me the reason why he played a small drum kit, was to save money so he could go out and buy some more very fine hand made suits, shirts, ties and fine leather shoes also it gave him extra wardrobe space when touring If you look at photos of Charlie when he was a baby, a young boy, a young man and all through his later life, he always like Charlie, Yes my old neighbour Charlie got it right all through his life. Charlie is now resting in peace and having the time of his life and rocking all around heaven forevermore

As sort of an all rounder musician, I can say the reason drummers generally seem happily centered and grounded is because there's nothing more physically/mentally/spiritually satisfying than playing drums in a great band to a great crowd. Basically the whole experience is powered by the drummer's core, and there's no feeling on earth like it. It's like the venue is the universe and you're the sun, energetically speaking.

Some drummers just radiate joy in their playing. Thanks Charlie. Your passing is ill timed. The world really needs a Stones tour just now.

RIP Charlie. An unassuming quiet humble man, not quite the high octane engines of the other geriatrics. Look at any of the group photos you'll see him smiling quietly a few feet AWAY from the other THREE superstars. Check out any video and you'll see Charlie, not in the activities and often Keith or Mickey will have to put a mick under his nose before he would say a few words. Nobody can replace Charlie. This will be the end of the Stones. Finally like all things, has to stop Rolling.
Charlie speaks - and dances!
