In a free society - it is not up to the government to decide how individuals educate their child. Educating your child is the law - the way isn't. - - - "People should not have to pay for something thats free." Nothing is free. People pay for the state system. Taxes! - - - You cannot ban people from setting up private schools. The notion is ridiculous.

Private schools are forbidden in Finland .

@@robertbarrett2494 That's not quite true. There are pvt schools in Finland, rare, but they cannot charge extra fees to make profits. Regardless, the point stands. In a free society, highly centralised education is a bad idea.

Generally Westminster is the best, particularly at academia, and Eton is the best for the social side

I can`t help thinking J.K.Rowling looked at Mr.Potter in the original broadcast of this program and thought...Hmmmmm.

I think Robert Lowe, the Headmaster of Winchester College between 1825 and 1829, put it rather well when he said - if you believe in freedom, not only must you tolerate the inequality between children which is the result, but you must also teach children to accept this inequality without envy and without resentment. What better way to do this than in the very structure of the education system itself. Making inequality seem natural, inevitable and somewhat beneficial at a most impressionable and formative age. Imbuing a respect for and an understanding of inequality, if not a liking of it. This sense that inequality will continue for you and for future generations, just as it has done so in the past.

I'm not rich either, but I don't think they're inbreeds, at least not all of them. It's not a crime to be born with a silver spoon. Your sort of resentment can't be very healthy.

teachers and other pupils ofter make you want to excel... there's nothing wrong in having a private school education, or government school. it's what you do with it that counts!

I went to a private school. 1) im not inbred and 2) and not rich at all yes im well off but im not rich. I wish people would get this out of their mind it is really mean and horrible and it just makes you look jealous. People get scholarships so people who wouldnt be able to afford to go to get to go. so they are not all rich.

Chad, perhaps if you had gone to Westminster you may have learnt how to spell a little better. Some may have been born with silver spoons in their mouths but this is preferable to having been born with a chip on one's shoulder.
