My theory on the breakup with the boyfriend is that you got an injury from a sporting or rock climbing incident- after moving out from his place is when the pain meds and heating pads start showing up. I think he was likely very unsupportive of it. He seemed like a fitness bro kinda guy and likely didn't handle the girlfriend being disabled very well.

Yes, you can absolutely change the settings to place objects anywhere. :3 It being restrictive is part of the puzzle aspect; having to fit things where they were intended to go. But I agree, some of the decisions seemed silly. One level you can place the gameboy under the pillow, the other you can't. The soil in the second to last house, I just wanted to store behind the couch because there was a huge space between that and the wall and it feels like it's supposed to be used. And some of the girlfriend's awards, I wanted to display some in the office, too, but it has to stay in the living room. 😭 So I get it. I suggest giving one playthrough with the puzzle feature on. And then playing with it off and personalizing it to how you want. Both feel rewarding.
