As a locksmith servicing camden day & night, i wince whenever I get a camden call. Sometimes the customers are genuinely insane or actively on hard drugs. Had people ask me to break into government buildings, stand in my way of leaving while they have a drug fit, people scream at me high out of there mind. People either refuse to pay, demand 80% off or literally take their keys and drive away before paying. I’ve heard someone on a phone call find their car broken into live and start crying, watched relationships fall apart from drugs while I’m changing locks. All the evictions where everyone on the block is staring at you because they know the tenants. I’ve left my van unlocked once for 3 minutes and had $200 stolen. You can’t take your eyes off your tools for a second of it’ll be sold out of someone’s trunk the next night. Always have to be on alert and not act stupid.

Wow! the abuses, and crimes... the teenagers sometimes stole items from the ambulences... and firetrucks... Yeah, it be hard being on welfare.... and living in dee projects on crackas' "cheese" ( taxes) and services...like firemen😢 And the incessant " teenagers'" whining about America 😢? What about dat?

They won’t do it cuz those neighboring nice cities don’t want these people to move out of Camden & into their towns/cities. #trust! I heard that on a KZbin video about Camden & neighboring to the south Gluchoster (sp?) city. Your best bet is to get out of Camden & not look back. “I never wanted a gun on me so much in my life”…. Oh yeah & I just drive thru neighborhoods there like Charlie bo I didn’t exactly “get out of the car” other than after we parked in the waterfront aquarium parking lot only to get denied admission after the lady at the gate took out $10 parking or whatever. I got to call out the parking lot lady & my girl (from upstate nj) who was in Iraq (in army) goes “___ this is not the type of city to do that in.. just let it go”. Then I think she wanted to joy ride around Camden & gps sucked back then.. went down that main east west st & then how tf do you get on ben Franklin bridge so we can tour Philly which was the plan! Oh crap now we can’t then left onto the bridge & now are in north Philly Cooper point under the bridge etc. like that dudes post atop quoting Chris rock “u no your not in a good neighborhood when no one is working during the day & everyone is just hanging out”… in this case … some of them strapped (dope boys on the stoop) watching their junkies & the streets. Look for the vid on the William rand bus Depot where 2 homeless guys sum canden up.. everyone in south jersey gets their drugs here than goes back to their suburb etc.. Altho some stay get addicted & never escape Camden. Never almost hit so many junkies as in the street by that damn bus depot! It was literally the walking dead. This was 2008

@@Kami_Sekai if you say so. I love visiting Florida so, I have never had a bad time there. So I gotta take your word for it. But Camden is just so, tight, and small. It just don’t feel right being there. Like I said, narrow one way streets. Basically every street in Camden is basically a dead end, very easy to set someone up, and the fact it’s so tight and small, it’s impossible to go unnoticeable. The second day I was in Camden it felt like people already knew me, not the right kinda people, the wrong kinda people.

My brother was a sergeant in the Mercer County NJ Sheriff's office. He had to give testimony in the court in Camden. He got lost in the back streets trying to find his way to the parking garage and stopped to ask a Camden cop how to get there. While he was getting directions the cop was calmly outlining in yellow chalk the body of someone who had recently been stabbed to death-blood all over the sidewalk. Cop was very calm and told my brother that sometimes he had to do that several times a day and it was no big deal.

I drove her to the store and quickly found out why she panicked, The place looked about as bad as a scene from the show, the walking dead. Whatever store we went to, that store, as well as every other business along the street have bars on the doors and windows. however this place looks during the day, it looks 10 times as worse in the evening.

I used to live in Cherry Hill back in the early 2000's and I would go to Camden from time to time (specifically North Camden) I never had any problems people were generally ok BUT I made sure to be out of Camden by 6pm every time I went (LOL). One night I was coming from Philly at 1am in the morning in January and it was freezing cold out side and somehow I made a wrong turn and ended up getting off the Camden exit. It was a 1am on a Tuesday and still was a bunch of people on every damn corner especially young school age people walking, running, hustling etc on the blocks. Cops were driving/flying by in their cars going super fast sirens on, ambulances everywhere. I have nothing but respect for people who live in the GRITTY tough cities like this THE stress they deal with 24/7/365 I honestly admit I could not be that person.

There are countless places across the United States where you can walk your child without there being a real possibility of them being shot down. No higher than the chance of getting stabbed or robbed in England. This was just a man that grew hatred for the United States. If you can settle in England, you can easily settle anywhere outside a major US city and your chances will be the same as anywhere else in the world. That's reality. The American Dream is VERY real and still exists, it's all about YOU that decides whether you'll live it or not. This country still floods with immigrants who build successful businesses and make more money than the average White American. It's likely their own perseverance after knowing real struggle and acquiring a major opportunity in the land of the free that they succeed in acquiring the American Dream - as many Irish once did.

The culture of black people in this country is sadly one that is very dangerous to their success. Being educated is being white thus it's discouraged. Taking care of your surroundings and being respectful is looked down upon. When your government is lying to you and telling you you are a victim who needs their support to survive and everything is against you no wonder people fall into despair. It's like a drug user mentality because it's so easy to shift blame onto everything else and it's hard to admit that you are the problem. They want to glorify materialism and the appearance of wealth without actually learning about how to generate wealth. The other huge issue is single parent house holds. Family and education are the main ways other groups who historically have struggled have been able to escape the problems and become successful.

From once being considered “east” Philly, to a ghost town in certain parts. However, I have seen signs of gentrification in recent years which gives me hope.

I haven’t been to Camden in a minute. I used to slide through there regularly when I-95 had that weird kink in it. If coming from Philly, I would cross the Ben Franklin Bridge and then work my way over to NJ 73 and the NJ Turnpike. I would try different routes and explore Camden in those times. Now, I can just stay on 95 directly through NE Philly and pick up the old 276 / PENNA Turnpike back over to Jersey and NYC. It took years to fill this gap in 95, with a simple set of ramps between 95, 276, and onto the NJ Turnpike. If coming from DC/MD, you can bypass the whole area by crossing over at the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

For everyone talking about the cars looking nice. Yes...the cars are nice because certain groups of people put more value into a car (which loses it's roi immediately after driving off the lot) as opposed to assets that can actually make you better off (like property and stocks) so yes you will often see a nice car in shit areas. Same reason they wear "designer" brands and drink expensive liquor. Materialism is fully encouraged yet fiscal responsibility is not.

That’s a good question for sure. I try to put myself in the shoes of a kid growing up in Camden. These people are dirt poor, the schools are terrible, there are few role models, and the drug trade is everywhere, literally right outside your door. The power of drugs is so strong in these hoods, it pulls the youngsters in-both in terms of making quick money, and also just using the drugs. The kids get sucked in and start getting arrested, criminal convictions, etc. Once they’re there, there’s little to help them pull themselves out. Again, bad schools, few role models, bad parents. The cycle just continues. There are people that break free but they tend to be exceptionally strong and driven. I’m not making any judgments here, this is just my understanding as someone who was raised in Philly.

The Faulkner Act is a NJ specific piece of legislation that provides a variety of governing models to choose from. Almost 80 municipalities in NJ utilize the Mayor-Council arrangement which provides the Mayor large power. The mayor in Camden has 5 council members. 2) Camden has not elected a republican mayor since Frederick Von Nieda in 1935.
