This was a fun one to make! Shoutout to all the cool students we met while filming this video. If you're deciding whether or not to go to college, or even what college you want to go to, I think you'll get A LOT of value from this video. Community college is definitely a smart financial choice for most people. Thanks for watching and have a great day! -Charlie

I think there is a misconception about Community College where people think it is only for people that don’t know what they want to do or did not have good grades in HS but personally I had a 3.95 GPA in high-school and am graduating with a 4.0 this year and can transfer to almost any school I want. Also my Brother went to Community College and then graduated from Cornell. Community college is what you make out of it.

100% agree, some don't know what to do after high school, so it's a great education after high school. some students can't afford going to a 4-year college after high school so taking the GE classes you're literally saving THOUSANDS of dollars. also since community college for the most part is a local school for most high school grads, you're saving THOUSANDS living with parents compared to living in a dorm or off-campus housing when a high school grad moves away. Lastly, a community college is great for students that just wanna learn a trade/skill ex/cooking, hair stylist/barber, construction, horticulture, drafting, paralegal.

For those considering community college, please think about what YOU want to do, not what your friends are doing. Community college is basically a second chance to begin on a clean slate no matter what kind of student you were in high school. I had no idea what I wanted of myself after high school and community college allowed me to save a ton of money while earning as many credits as I possibly could. Stay positive and focus on YOU.

I just transferred from a Southern California community college to SDSU. My biggest advice is to stay motivated throughout your journey at the CC. I’ve seen too many of my friends and classmates just stall in their progress and just slowly stop going to school. I also speak from experience since it took me 10 years to finally transfer. Stay focused and get er done!

Benefits of Community College: 1. Get to choose if you want to be UC or CSU bound! 2. College courses can be free with a meal voucher! Ex. Fullerton College 3. Max out the transfer units ex. CSU the Max units you can transfer is 70 4. Complete some major prerequisites at a community college 5. There are so many certificates ex. Paralegal, medical, dental, x-ray technician 7. Fun facts! *Some professors at CSU made their children go to community college because staff members only got 9 units for free. They did not see that worth it! 8. Parking is cheaper at a community college ex. CSUF parking is $250 not guaranteed parking, some students miss the first day of class 9. Alot more student friendly than a university Reply if you have any questions

Great video! Being a product of going through the CC, and now being adjunct and teaching (at OCC actually) I agree with what was said plus so much more. Faculty does focus on student success and we have the time where we can help out with questions. A past faculty member told me, but at the UC/SC's, teachers need to teach/publish/research, so their attention is split.

Two more really great things about Community College. If you have little income and qualify for Financial Aid you can get paid pretty well just to go to college. Also lots of states have pathways for students to have guaranteed acceptance to State Universities. So Community College is 100% the best option for most people. You don’t need tons of money or need to get into huge debt to get a degree.

Great video! I went the comm college route to get a bachelors. Good direction if you are cost conscious, want to get entry level classes done and don't know what to major in. I have kids, 1 in a in-state public university and the other at an out of state, private university. the cost difference is mind blowing! Hope these kids are being mindful about costs. Don't need our future leaders having a boat load of student loan debt! thanks for sharing, Charlie.

Great advice, especially about considering trade school as an option. Those guys can make a ton of money, there is a dearth of talent, and they aren't stuck at a desk all day. Something you might want to consider is looking into providing information about the state law that requires UC's to make room for transfer students from California CCs (and only CCs), known as the TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program. My kids got into the UC of their choice because of this law. One did it after only one year at GCC because he already had 35 AP units. Both loved the dedicated faculty and small class sizes, which was very different from what they encountered in the humongous gen ed classes at UCLA and UCSC. Good work and good luck!

Also community college is good for gaining lots of college credit, by _dual-enrolling_ in CC while still in high school. There are students who have graduated from high school and enter universities like UCLA and the other UCs with junior-standing and can go more in-depth with their majors or graduate in two years.

@@KingmoneyJay23 yeah, I did quite a lot online. It was great! I got FAFSA and because I was a full time student I was getting back about $8000 a year for just going to school while working full time/partime and I was able to save up around 45k at one point before applying to nursing school. As far as nursing school I went to Southern California it was a bit expensive because tbh my grades weren’t the best. If you have good grades you have a better chance at getting accepting into the cheaper nursing schools, so I had to go to a more expensive nursing school but it was well worth it.

@@KingmoneyJay23you got this brother! The fact that you’re watching this video means you’re on the right track. How old are you? I’m currently 27 years old but I realized that life is a long journey so as long as you’re consistently pushing towards a goal you’ll make it! My advice is to focus on the classes you take and get the best grades you can. Also reach out to tutors if you’re unfamiliar with any subjects. My issue was that although I saved about 45k I was too focused on working instead of college at some times and I took long breaks. If I had just committed to school I would have been a nurse at age 23

Yea they’re just prerequisites 😂 if that wasn’t the case then universities wouldn’t accept community college transfer credits. But they do accept them for a reason, ITS THE SAME CLASSES. There are some real smooth brains in this world. It’s because they put status over their children.
@DerekMckean
@DerekMckean 7 ай бұрын
I'm going to positively nitpick your claim. I wouldn't say that they are the same classes. Rather thsn stating they are the same, it is more accurate to say community college classes carry a similar amount of rigor among classes that universities accept as course equivalencies, even though content may vary among classes that share with the same name (e.g English 1A) or classes accepted as course equivalents. If they were the same classes, that would mean each class would have tge same curriculum. Since instructors sometines create their own curriculum along with faculty members, each college will have many different curriculums for 1 class (e.g While English 1A may have a research paper, the content is up to the instructor). Since the content will always vary among transferable courses, each class accepted for credit will not have the same curriculum at the university. However, it's through articulation agreements, colleges figure out which courses have similar content. However, as we know content from English classes vastly differs across English Composition 1, instructors will not teach the same curriculum but mat have similar goals and objectives as outlined by the instructor's syllabus. Each section of a class is a different experience that share common goals and objectives for the name of a class. However, I'm going to argue against what I just argued, sort of. I don't there's any confusion over what you mean by tge wird class. Anatomy 1 is Anatomy 1. U.s History Early America to 1800 is U.s History Early America to 1800. By all means, these classes share the same name and meet degree requirements. I know exactly what you have meant all along. And in a normal conversation, I might say these are the same equivalent classes, especially since they have the same name. There's no argument there. However, I'm also saying that no class is created equal. Each Intro to Sociology class may be a totally different experience, thereby not making them the same. I hope you get to read this full edited version, rather than the 1st post which only had a portion of my passage.

I'm a therapist. I started off at a community college. I transferred to a 4 year and then went to get my master's. I went to a private school to get my master's degree. I owe a lot of money just to get a master's degree from a private school. It's not worth the stress paying that back although it was a pretty good program. I wished I would have gone back to a state university. Avoid student loans unless you know you will make a lot of money from your career. I obtained my psychology degree, then I did social work for my master's degree. Social workers don't make that much money in most fields unless it's medical. If I would have known, I would have never borrowed that much money. It was not worth it. No one cares where I went to get my master's degree. They just wanted to make sure I went to an accredited college.

I moved from Thailand and my parents could not afford the 4-year college tuition in US plus they would have to pay international student rate which was insane. Hence, I had to go to a community college where I knew they would put me in an internship program during the last semester. It was competitive, but I could get to one of the popular corporations. The cost is per credit hour / not per class. So each class is between 3-5 credit hours ($150 - $250). This cost is also only for in state residents. If you come from another state its like $400 per credit hour. Also any books or materials for any class in college must be purchased separately from the tuition cost. Books in college are inflated because there is no competition so some books cost in the $100's of dollars for a book you will only for that 1 class.

What were you interested in studying? Nothing is guaranteed unfortunately. There are people with great degrees who struggle to find work just cuz of competition. There are also those who just pick bad majors that are not in demand so it's a little bit of a toss up tbh. My tip is to get on indeed and search for jobs in the field you want to go for and see if there's a lot of people hiring for it. If not I wouldn't study, if so I'd go for it. You already have work experience too so I think that puts you ahead since I've heard lack of experience was a big problem for fresh college graduates.

So I had a comfortable gov't job but decided to go to trade school during the pandemic; trades are pushed heavily in my community. Worked for the Union labor and concrete, considered IBEW apprenticeship but quickly realized I'd rather save my body and work with my mind. So I'm now attending community college. And because of my age I qualify as a non traditional student; with financial aid and grants, school has been free. I was able to find good white collar employment without a degree, work good union trade jobs and I'm 100% confident I'll be able to secure more comfortable employment with an Associates AND my years of work experience. I'd say go get it bud! Plus there are plenty of "blue collar" certificates that will increase your pay if you want to stay in the field like Construction Management, Industrial Maintenance, Supply & Logistics.
