Ha! I have been using this pattern for the past 2 months. Tan or Gray strike indicator material. I had to giggle when I saw the video. Good job as always Charlie

The one thing I like about Craig's patterns, I have been tying the Sparkle dun since the mid-1980s is that they are quick to tie and fairly cheap and they work way better than you would think they would. I like tying with Hare's Ear Masks, I tied a lot of dry flies with it that just plan work. The older I get the less I want to tie complicated or time-consuming flies.

I am with on simple flies. I tie a simple red thread body with 6 strands of deer hair for wing, and 4 strands of feather tail

I'm about a year in to tying and while I'm doing okay and learning a TON, I'm getting frustrated: My material keeps rolling away from me. ugh...Is there a trick/technique to keeping materials from "running away" from me when I tie? Here, stuff stays nice on the top but mine? I keep chasing it around! getting frustrating!!

Any advice for a novice who keeps breaking this 14/0 thread (when tying the wing on, especially)? I really don't feel like I'm putting that much tension on it...

I noticed you tie it with the wing with the loop horizontal to the body rather than vertical which you showed on the fly before you tied the video fly...I know the original has a vertical loop as well, any particular reasoning behind this?

stupid question, does the hares mask make it sink? Do you have to be careful how much you put on?

While not a waterproof dubbing, when treated with flotant and coupled with the macrame yarn wing, this one floats pretty well

Isn't it sacrilege to swap zlon out of a Craig Matthews pattern? :) Guy is trying to sell his stash, man.
