Critique of a green horse MUST be different from a "seasoned" one going Grand Prix. He's only 4. The thing to be looking at first is her body position. This horse is looking at everything, and his gaits are inconsistent because of that. He's behind the verticle because he has a weak back. He's just starting out and it will take years to stengthen him. As the video progresses, he has moments when he stays with the contact and lengthens his back, he comes up through his neck and poll. The key here, though, is her consistent position. No matter what the horse is doing, her back stays straight, her seat stays in the saddle with a soft contact, her leg is in the same position, she rises at the trot and her hands are steady with a light but consistent contact. Just because the horse is behind the vertical doesnt mean she has a strong hand or bit. He's 4 AND a stallion. I've seen so many videos of late where "top level" riders are pulled forward by the reins, with their seat coming out of the saddle with their legs all over the place. She clearly demonstrates that her steady body position is what will eventually help this horse not only learn to trust her but respond by relaxing and eventually stengthen to do the work that will be asked of him.

@Whitneyfanxxxx110 ай бұрын
Ridj mg a 4yo on the hindleg is extremely unproductive the horse will break. Literally. At 4years you want to see the weight of the horses body carried equally, not on the forehand but also not pushed to be on the hind leg, balance between both is a must at this age ! Charlotte brings the bit right up to the corners of the mouth so the horse learns to take and accept the contact in the correct place from the beginning. I can see you clearly are not a rider you look too overweight to ride any horse I certainly wouldn't allow you near any of my horses with the size you are. Overweight riders are more of an issue in this industry than anything else but people are too afraid to point it out, but it's ok for the fat people to abuse the top riders who train their body's to stay slim so the poor horses don't have to carry their extra weight.

@ashleymichaelkaritis10 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing - and a rein aid like that isn't really a "true" way of getting a horse to come off of the forehand. Would love to a see a young horse with a much longer neck, reaching for contact. I know he's probably very hot and tense, but if the horse isn't relaxed then....time to pause and go back to something even more basic on the training scale.
@haleyps692910 ай бұрын
@@ashleymichaelkaritis I think we need to have realistic experience for young horses. Yes, he should definitely be more relaxed and definitely be in a frame that’s more reaching and long, but he’s only hour. That relaxation is going to come with age and experience in environments like this. There’s no way to mimic this type of environment at home. That’s why people take their young horses out, to get them that experience.
@alisonking010 ай бұрын
I’m sure that’s exactly the kind of relaxation you’d see at home. This is a 4yo on his third trip off property, in an indoor packed with spectators. The fact he’s handling the atmosphere so well is a testament to just how relaxed he likely is in familiar surroundings.

Couldn't agree more! The horse is dropping himself behind the vertical at times and every time, she lifts her hands and applies a bit of leg pressure to bring his head up again. She could very easily let him go around with his chin tucked to his chest but she's not. I have a mare that when I got her, would just put her chin on her chest every time you took up the contact due to the way she'd been trained. Three years on she's improved hugely but she still naturally arches her neck when you take up the rein, even though she's now in a very soft bitless bridle so it's definitely not me pulling her head down. And she's extremely sensitive (as this young horse is) so you can't get her to bring her nose forward in just one stride or you'll have an explosion. Also for this young horse, with huge movement like that, he needs to learn to use his body correctly or he won't stay sound. I think she's doing a great job and hope to see him at top level someday.

I could puke when I see such a young horse being so artificially collected and "schooled". It doesn't learn to find its own balance but is shaped by the rider's hand. It's the curse of modern horses that they offer themselves so easily. It doesn't learn to seek connection to the rider's hand and to come into a healthy forward-downward movement, to arch its back to properly carry the rider. As soon as a horse has learned this, as soon as it allows itself to be driven and doesn't run on its own - which these modern horses strongly offer - then the rider can begin to pick it up, and this happens depending on the age. This will be the next dressage crutch

At least jumping is more honest, if you’re no good it’s going to show immediately, and I really wonder about riders who decide to stick with only dressage.
