The funniest VAR decision I have ever seen. A wide angle camera with more downtown buildings visible than the field… the players look like ants 🐜on the screen…. So yeah.“clear and obvious” taking away cuchos great finish. While in the corner of the screen it says “checking for possible handball” 😂😂😂😂😂 I was mad, but honestly the clown show was sooooo funny. Then the ref gives a soft penalty to CLT and doesn’t even look at the VAR for it. 😂😂😂😂

I’m a die hard CLTFC fan who was in the supporter’s section during this game. That first half was one of the worst halves I’ve ever seen in my 24 years of watching soccer. Myself, as well as everyone around me were absolutely dumbfounded by so many calls especially the red to Jones and the penalty at the end of the first half. MLS needs the normal refs back. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t play more than 5 minutes the entire game without the whistle being blown. It was honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve had watching a soccer game in person. The last 15 minutes were amazing but everything else was an absolute shambles. MLS should be ashamed.

I wish every non-Columbus fan would think this way. It's like people don't think about the fact that this guy could be in charge of their next match. I think every real fan can at least agree that it's much more meaningful when a match isn't massively affected by poor officiating.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said. The sport is far worse off with this kind of officiating. The fact that there is only one broadcaster nationwide means that the narrative around the refs is more uniformly controlled. It is ridiculous that the broadcasters don't continue to at least point out the problem with refs and the fans reaction to it. I get that the broadcaster is sports entertainment, but the broadcasters are still supposed to be journalists. This isn't WWE. Last week, our whole stadium was shouting "Scabs! Scabs! Scabs!" at the refs going into half. (And that was among the more charitable chants.). That doesn't get mentioned. The *protracted* and incompetent VAR sure seems to correlate with folks who, regardless of whether they are capable refs from other leagues, don't have any experience with MLS VAR. That doesn't get mentioned. And so on....

One of the worst officiated matches not just in the history of MLS, but the history of the sport period. The red, the VAR "review", the penalty, the horrible field conditions, and an obscene amount of stoppage time once again, I don't even know where to start! This has to be investigated for match fixing. This game and this ref, if you can even call him that, are the results of MLS' greed. Pay your refs and get rid of these scabs. I feel horrible for Columbus fans, and MLS should feel embarrassed and ashamed with this game and its officiating. The ref single-handedly decided the outcome of this game, and MLS only have themselves to blame. Do fucking better.

*They do this on purpose you know why? To try to keep INTER MIAMI at the top. Columbus, even with a tie, would take Miamis spot since they lost. I've noticed they do this in other leagues too to keep the team they want at the top sometimes instead of helping them directly they make it harder for the competition.* 🤷‍♂️

Coming from a Crew fan, I think the most egregious calls were against us, but there were a number of terrible calls against Charlotte. During that one point blank miss and a foul was called, I watched it over wondering where the foul even was. That bailed the Crew out. Charlotte should've had a corner right at the start. One terrible offsides call against Charlotte in the first half. And why Agyemang receive a yellow towards the end? That was a very light challenge on Bush. This is just to show that there is no conspiracy against the Crew, just incompetence by MLS. This match is almost null and void because the reffing was so bad. Pay PRO.

Although it doesn’t feel too terrible since the backup refs already screwed us over last week in Nashville with a no-call that should’ve been a penalty kick that was so egregious that the ref must’ve been covering his eyes with his hands the entire time. Regardless. Don Garber needs to get his head out of his ass and start paying professional refs. The MLS is becoming so much more of a joke than it already was. I just want my team to bring pride to my city, but that can’t happen with points being given or taken away from us by poor refereeing

Why not show both false starts? Countless bad calls by this ref, but really the main one was the red card on Jones. That absolutely ruined the match from then on, and the ref couldn't help but continue to pile on the mistakes in what ended up being the longest first half in MLS history. Massively embarrassing, billionaire owners need to pay the refs and build soccer specific stadiums with natural grass before stepping foot in the league.

This will be competing for the worst game of the year by season end. I have been critical of MLS not paying the experienced refs but have been patient with the poor guys thrust into situations they aren't prepared for. But this was egregious beyond belief. Ludicrous time management late and delayed calls every 3-4 minutes, and another ridiculous red. A foul for sure but that red is not in the spirit of the rules. To add insult to injury Charlotte played awful despite being up a man for 60 minutes. It was a comedy of errors and miss hits (that penalty 😂) and Columbus was certainly not any better being down a man. It was just a horrible game overall. Except for Charlotte fans, celebrate even the ugly ones crown city!

Would I like to have won? Sure. But we also have two titles in the last four seasons, so one tough result is not going to send me into a death spiral. We also had I think five players out on international duty including 2-3 every game starters, and our head coach was so sick he couldn't even make the trip. So the result isn't my problem. Kudos to you, enjoy the three points. The issue was it was an unwatchable farce made possible by scab officiating who looked like they're still learning the game.
