Before the Charlotte Hornets came to the NBA, the last time North Carolina saw pro basketball was in the old ABA, when there were a team called the Carolina Cougars, who had three different home courts in Greensboro, Raleigh and Charlotte. The Cougars existed from 1969-74.

Thanks for posting this. Charlotte is my home town. I moved away over 30 years ago. I went to every Hornets game that first year, until after the MJ homecoming game. It was one spontaneous explosion of pure joy when Rambis hit that shot. As loud as anything I've ever heard. After that tickets were hard to come by and a lot more expensive

This is coming from a lifelong true Chicago Bulls fan here. I grew up watching basketball in the late 80s and 90s era. Those were my favorite times and in my opinion the best time in the league. There were tons of superstars back then and it was the best time to watch the league as a true basketball fan. I grew up watching as a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan and I must admit I loved the original Charlotte Hornets, especially from the early to mid 1990's. They had the most beautiful colors as a basketball team with the light blue, white and throw in a little bit of the purple. I miss those colors. Also I loved the team with Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Mugsy Bouges, Dell Curry and Kendall Gill. etc... To me those will always be the original and best Charlotte Hornets team. It was short lived, but they were young and good. Made the playoffs and I miss the original colors and the original Hornet logo. Now they have a robotic , fake looking Hornet. They need to go back to the original Hornet logo and mascot. That is the problem with society they always think they have to change everything all the time. If it isn't broken don't fix it so to speak. I find out more often then not that when people try to fix, or change the original most of the time it comes out worse. There is nothing like the original and in the case of the Charlotte Hornets. The original colors and logo was in my opinion and one of the best in the league. Beautiful colors and again this is coming from a Chicago Bulls fan. I miss and loved the colors, logos, designs and uniforms etc... from the early to mid 90s basketball teams. In my opinions those were the best times as a basketball fan and best colors and team designs. Not to mention all the talent and great players in the league.

New generation, ignorant, liberal comments don't count because that is my whole point I was basically writing about. This new generation/liberal minded, follow the world and change with the times minded culture, is what is screwing up and perverting society. It is messing things up from sports, politics and to religion, you name it etc..... Liberalism is a disease that needs to be cured. It has nothing to do with out dated. If something looks nice, then it looks nice. Like I said, if it isn't broken don't fix it. Most of the uniforms today look like we live on some other planet, from galaxy x alien world, or something. They look weird. As is much of the world today. People keep trying to change with the times. Big mistake! Like I always say, the world changes, people and the culture changes, but God and his Word remain the same! As the Bible says, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever! God's Word remains the same and is the truth! The truth never changes! In my opinion, I love 90's basketball and I think both the uniforms and players/league was much better!

I went to Carowinds in Charlotte my 8th grade class trip ("92-93) I bought a 60$ Hornets hat with a leather bill & Swede cap, & got a Alonzo Mourning Jersey... I still have them both in storage, and Alonzo & LJ Rookie cards with them somewhere I need to find those!

The original Charlotte Hornets had great players over the years, if they could have kept them together and the hornets were not relocated, they could have built a champion contender team for years, my all time favorite original hornets 1. While I absolutely loved those Charlotte teams, it should be mentioned that a big reason they were able to win that series was because Reggie Lewis was hospitalized during game 1 from the heart ailment that would lead to his death only months later. RIP
